The Schwyz Government Council submits a draft to Parliament for the implementation of the first phase of the healthcare initiative. It is mainly about an eight-year training offensive. He estimates the total costs at more than 19 million francs.

The Schwyz government announced on Thursday that the corresponding introductory law should come into force on October 1, if possible.

After the Swiss electorate approved the nursing initiative in November 2021, the Federal Parliament approved the eight-year Act for the Promotion of Nursing Education (FGA). A core element of the first phase of the implementation of the nursing initiative is the so-called training offensive.

With the current implementation law, the Canton of Schwyz will, among other things, make contributions for the practical training of nurses at tertiary level at higher technical schools and technical colleges for hospitals, nursing homes and organizations that employ nurse specialists for eight years. The federal government will reimburse a maximum of half of the cantonal contributions, as they say.

According to estimates, the total cost for the canton of Schwyz is approximately 17.4 million francs for financing and 1.9 million francs for implementation.

The cantonal introductory law also stipulates that the Government Council can extend the training obligation and support to further training in the nursing sector, such as specialist in healthcare (FaGe), assistant in health and social affairs or the specialist certificate for long-term care. has been said.
