Today we meet the maned wolf.

With a shoulder height of up to one meter, it is the largest wild dog in South America.

Their diet consists of rodents, rabbits, birds and insects. This is because their teeth have deteriorated so much that they can no longer dissect larger animals.

Maned wolves live monogamously, pairs sharing a territory. However, they usually live and hunt separately.

Fun fact: the urine of the maned wolf is strongly reminiscent of cannabis. This even led to a police action in Blijdorp Zoo.
