What did Switzerland Google the most in 2023? We have the answers

Want to verify a fact to show your colleague how superior you are? Then you, like almost all Swiss, resort to the search engine from Silicon Valley. With its market power, Google impressively demonstrates what has kept Switzerland busy over the past year. The company publishes these lists once a year, including this one. Here are the results:

It was a turbulent year, as news searches show. “Few technology topics have attracted as much attention this year as AI chatbots,” Google wrote in a press release. But the demise of the CS, the war in Israel and the discussions surrounding Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann also generated many search questions.

  1. ChatGPT
  2. CS stock
  3. War in Israel and Gaza
  4. Rammstein
  5. Turkiye earthquake
  6. Brienz
  7. Titanic
  8. Lampedusa
  9. Dalai Lama
  10. Lützerath

Singer Remo Forrer reached the top with his participation in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Yann Sommer follows with his trip to Bayern Munich. In general, it can also be said for the election year: politicians in this country can hardly keep up with athletes, at least when it comes to Google searches.

In the US, Taylor Swift was just named Time’s ‘Person of the Year 2023’. In Switzerland, despite crowds, she had to settle for 9th place for her concert tickets. Interestingly enough, in first place is a person who is little known in German-speaking Switzerland: Pierre Palmade.

The French comedian and actor was involved in a serious traffic accident on February 10, 2023. Several people were injured and an unborn baby died. Palmade tested positive for cocaine after the accident.

Speaking of Taylor Swift: we also have someone in the editorial office who thinks the pop singer is cute.

This year too, well-known personalities have left us. These deaths have attracted particular attention:

2023 was the year of blockbusters. But who is the greatest of the greats? When it comes to Google searches, Oppenheimer even puts Barbie and Avatar in the bag.

Speaking of cravings, what do Mr. and Mrs. Schweizer google while cooking (or eating)? Look here:

And to drink? Voila:

We ask Google questions that we don’t even dare to express publicly. Or just things we just don’t know. A small selection:

So, how long does a bimester last? You will find the answer at the end of the article.

What the heck are Boomwhackers? We will also have to postpone this answer until later.

Why does carnival even exist? We don’t have an answer to that. But when asked why glitter was banned.

We started the story with AI and want to end it with that. Unfortunately, we don’t have easy answers to all these questions.

How long does a bimester last? Two months.

What are Boomwhackers? They are musical instruments. So plastic tubes of different lengths that produce different sounds when touched.

Why was glitter banned? Because it is bad for the environment. The EU has declared war on microplastics.
