So we can learn something today: This is a muntjac.

Muntjac is a species of deer that originates from Asia.

A characteristic of muntjacs is their long (vampire-like) canines.

However, these teeth are not used for hunting, but are mainly used for display and territorial disputes with other muntjacs. These ‘vampire teeth’ tend to be more pronounced in men.

In this video you see glands in the face inflating. They have two: right in front of their eyes and on their foreheads.

They use these glands for communication. As they expand, they release an individual chemical compound that provides other muntjacs with information about the animal’s sex, age and reproductive status.

Information about the health and social status of the animal is also passed on.

One last fun fact: Muntjacs are also called “barking deer” because they make a barking sound when warning their fellow deer of danger.
