The world is in the Barbie hype: the movie about the most famous plastic doll in the world has so far grossed almost $ 800 million, and Barbie is back on everyone’s lips in everyday life. Images are also circulating that turn the real world into Barbieland. We wondered: what would Switzerland look like in such a case? That’s why we asked the AI software Midjourney to design 20 Swiss celebrities as a Barbie or Ken version.
The task was not easy. Often the AI just didn’t know the people we put in front of it. For example, it was impossible to get a good picture of Sion President Christian Constantin or Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider. Another problem: Midjourney seems to systematically sexualize the female characters, as they are always made up and often seen in tight dresses. Some aesthetic decisions also remain unclear: why Christoph Blocher is holding a baby or why Guy Parmelin is dressed like a magician remains unclear.
With these difficulties in mind, here are the results!
