The big tech companies preview products at their annual developer conferences. At the same time, new strategies are presented. Starting tonight at 7 p.m. (see below), Google plans to kick off its I/O developer conference with a look at new developments and emerging tech topics from the group.
A central topic has traditionally been the future of the most widely used smartphone operating system, Android. Here it is expected that there will be final details about the platform.
The beta version has been available since February and, as always, the final version should be released in late summer, not just for Google mobile devices.
A central topic at the developer conference is likely to be the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). Developer OpenAI caused a sensation in recent months with its ChatGPT chatbot, which can formulate sentences like a human being.
Google’s competitor Microsoft is pressuring the internet company to make more of its own AI developments publicly available with a multibillion-dollar partnership with OpenAI. So far, Google has been reluctant to do so, citing responsible use of the technology.
However, the Wall Street Journal reported that Google wanted to use artificial intelligence to change how hits are displayed in its search engine. In particular, it should concern questions where a collection of links is not very useful as an answer.
In addition, Google will show its first foldable mobile phone, as the group announced in advance. US broadcaster CNBC reported in April that Google’s smartphone, called the Pixel Fold, will have a 7.6-inch display when unfolded.
It would be the same size as the competitor device Samsung Fold. When folded, you can use the 5.8-inch screen on the outside.
Apple’s developer conference will follow on June 5. The annual event is also an important opportunity for the Cupertino-based tech group to provide insight into its strategy. This year the company was allowed to show its first virtual reality or augmented reality product.
The keynote will last approximately 2 hours. If you don’t want to miss them, you can tap the bell icon in the video (above) to be notified in a timely manner.
