Peugeot is preparing for the future with its renewed logo, strengthened brand image and tighter electric strategy. From 2019, the second generation of the Peugeot 2008 is now available for the visual and technical revision for 2008 and the electric version called e-2008.
The 2008 model from the Stellantis subsidiary is particularly impressive in appearance: new headlights shine at the front and rear, and the daytime running lights now look like lions’ claws. The lion-headed logo, which was renewed last year, now adorns the front of the 2008 models. Overall, the front looks a bit wider and more prominent.
The interior has also been brightened: the touchscreen in the center of the instrument cluster has been enlarged from seven inches to ten inches. The driver assistance systems and infotainment system are state-of-the-art, and eight-colour ambient lighting is also integrated.
The most important innovation, however, is a second look at technology: the new electric drive package is now also available for the e-2008, which will take all Stromer from the Stellantis group in the future. Output has increased to 156 hp (115 kW) instead of the previous 136 hp (100 kW). It’s still not much, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
In the lower body, there’s more capacity for the battery pack, which has been increased from 50 to 54 kilowatt-hours (kWh), as in sister models DS3 Crossback E-Tense and Jeep Avenger. This increases the range from about 325 to over 400 kilometers. The maximum charging speed on the fast charger is manageable at 100 kW: the Stromer charges 80 percent in half an hour. A 7.4 kW single-phase charger is installed as standard, but the charging speed can optionally be increased to 11 kW with the on-board three-phase charger. The standard consumption of the electric version is 15.9 kWh per 100 kilometers.
Besides the electric version, the Peugeot 2008 will continue to be offered with internal combustion engines. Two three-cylinder petrol engines with a displacement of 1.2 liters deliver 100 hp (74 kW) with a six-speed manual gearbox and 130 hp (96 kW) with an eight-speed automatic transmission in the more powerful version. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 130 hp (96 kW) and coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission also stays in range.
At the beginning of 2024, Peugeot will follow the hybrid version of 2008: In addition to the 130 hp (100 kW) petrol engine, there is an additional electric motor in the six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Not only should it reduce daily consumption by around 15 percent, it should also enable you to drive all-electric in half the time in city traffic.
The refreshed Peugeot 2008 and its electric sibling will land in dealerships in the second half of 2023. Prices for current models start at CHF 32,040 for the internal combustion engine and CHF 35,980 for the sports version. The e-2008 is available starting at CHF 40,730 and the sporty version starting at CHF 44,500. In terms of price, there should probably be a small surcharge with a facelift.
