Avenir Suisse boss will become Auto President

Peter Grünenfelder (55) will become the new President of Auto-Switzerland. The Board of the Swiss Automobile Importers Association approved a relevant selection proposal. At the general meeting of the association to be held in Lucerne on May 15, Grünenfelder will be elected according to the plan.

The successor to Albert Rösti (55), who was forced to resign from his post after being elected to the Federal Council last December, will be the current director of the think tank Avenir Suisse. Rösti was president of Auto Switzerland for a little over six months. Grunenfelder, St. He holds a PhD in business administration from the University of St. Gallen and brings with him many years of management experience, as well as an extensive network of economic policy and administration. As director of Avenir Suisse, he also dealt with strategic issues such as transport, energy and climate policy. Grünenfelder was previously a civil servant in the canton of Aargau.

Peter Grünenfelder himself also looks forward to his future work with the association: “For me, road traffic is the engine of the economy. If we want to be successful as a society, we must keep it going.” It wants to contribute with its car importers association to meet the mobility needs of business and society and to solve energy supply security and climate policy issues.

35 importers, 56 brands

The Swiss Auto Association is the official automobile importers association. The 35 member companies sell cars of 56 brands through around 4,000 services in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. About 226,000 passenger cars were newly registered in Switzerland last year. Before the corona pandemic, the average was around 300,000 vehicles per year.

Future CO₂ limits for Swiss new car fleets, the change in the car market in the transition to electromobility, the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and the role of the car becoming a mode in the future interaction of transportation.
