Sales numbers aren’t everything. Nearly 1.6 million Audi deliveries in 2022 don’t sound impressive – as main competitors BMW and Mercedes sold significantly more last year. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann (53) predicts that “by 2025 we will present more than 20 new models, more than ten of them electric”. It wants to offer an all-electric model in the most important segments by 2027. This will also include an entry-level Stromer as part of the current Q4 E-Tron, which will be based on the e-platform shared with VW.

Big batteries, fast charging

But money is more likely to be earned in the upper classes, and many in the middle and upper classes are looking forward to the new models. Like its technical twin, the Porsche Macan, the upcoming Q6 E-Tron will be on the road with battery packs with a capacity of around 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh). As with the refreshed Q8 E-Tron, Audi relies on prismatic cells for higher energy density in the same space. It is charged using 800 volt technology, which provides a maximum charge capacity of 270 kilowatts (kW). The battery can be charged from five percent to 80 percent in less than half an hour. The upcoming electric Porsche Macan should have all-wheel drive and up to 612 hp (460 kW), while Audi’s Q6 E-Tron, like its coupe variant called the Sportback, should offer slightly less power to descend lower. price.

When the Q6 E-Tron is released, the entire model range will be reworked. In the future, electric vehicles will come with an even number on the back, while internal combustion engines will come with an odd number. The successor to the current Audi A4 will be called the A5, and sports versions will come as the S5 and RS5. This should give clients more insight into the portfolio. The question of whether the e-Tron add-on will continue remains unanswered – after all, in the long run all models will already be fully electric. At Mercedes, the EQ mark on electric models will likely disappear as early as 2024.

Rear push coming soon

Working closely with the range With the A6 Avant E-Tron Concept, Audi took a look at the next generation of luxury class last year. It should score as an internal combustion engine (A7/S7/RS7) and set new standards with powerful electric versions. Audi development chief Oliver Hoffmann announced 800-volt technology, 270 kW charging capacity and a standard range of up to 700 kilometers. Practical: The variable interior with folding rear seat remains the same as the combustion engine in the new PPE platform. Other than the rear-wheel drive offered for the first time, there are no special surprises when it comes to driving; most engine variants should have all-wheel drive.

Base versions with weak engines are a thing of the past, and the A6 run is unlikely to mark the end of its 476 hp (350 kW). The base models sprint from zero to 100 km/h in about seven seconds, while the RS versions of the A6 as Sportback and Avant combi models do it in under four seconds. Duesmann is confident: “In January and February 2023, we delivered almost 40 percent more all-electric vehicles worldwide compared to the same period last year.”
