A roaring goodbye to say goodbye

Excuse me, but this text is an ode to a sports car whose final hour is about to come. Production of the Jaguar F-Type, which has been in production since 2012, will end in 2024 after twelve years. So we take the F-Type R75 Convertible with 575 hp, eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive and take a farewell tour. In Spain, we go from the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic, from Sitges to San Sebastian.

By pressing the red flashing start button, we bring the eight pots to life without fail. Here we go! The Jaguar F-Type stays true to itself in the anniversary edition. In terms of agility, it’s more of a GT, not a two-seater Porsche 911. The wide curves of the picturesque Serra d’Ordal were made for British sports cars.

Soon the mighty cliffs of the Pyrenees rise majestically before us. Curve after bend, interrupted by short straights, we climb higher and higher. The five-liter supercharged V8 engine performs exceptionally well at low revs, even if we keep revs high using the shift paddles. So we climb the Port de la Bonaigua pass, stopping briefly at 2072 m above sea level. and enjoy the view of the white sugar peaks.

Continue. The streets are getting narrower, sensitivity is needed now. The next transit of our ascent and descent is already waiting. Asphalt is hard in Port de Cantó. A dream for the 1.9-tonne roadster with all-wheel drive with a powerful engine. As a reminder, the performance data is again: 575 hp, 700 Nm of torque, 3.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a theoretical top speed of 300 km/h. With the sports exhaust flap closed, our convertible presents itself as a decent gentleman. But unfortunately, we let the exhaust fumes flow freely through the four shiny chrome tailpipes. Then the noble Dr. Jekyll for being rude to Mr. Hyde.

We are enjoying the Spanish spring. The soft top is still open and the side windows have been lowered. The wind is blowing around our heads. There is no doubt that the Jaguar F-Type R75 Convertible is a car for the sporty and ambitious recreational driver. However, with its price of 155,800 francs, it is not cheap. If you don’t want to spend that much money, you can also make friends with the F-Type R-Dynamic. It is available for 91,100 francs, but instead of the five-liter compressor V8, it has a two-liter, four-cylinder engine with “only” 300 hp.

Relatively short waiting time

Anyone who buys a fast yet open F-Type from the dealership will be traveling topless from summer onwards. Because the F-Type does not have as many semiconductors as the new models of the British automaker. The chip crisis hit Jaguar Land Rover badly, garnering 200,000 pre-orders. They are now processed by margin. This means that models with the highest margin, such as the Range Rover, are built first.

The F-Type, which will be phased out next year, is a bridge to the future, as by the end of 2025 Jaguar will only be selling all-electric vehicles. And you don’t have to be a prophet to suspect that the next Jaguar Stromer after the I-Pace will be a sports car. But that doesn’t change the fact that the F-Type has what it takes to be a classic. Because its design has a timeless beauty today, just as it did eleven years ago.
