For the Apple event of the year: Insiders would fear a product flop

On June 5, Apple is holding its show to kick off this year’s WWDC developer conference. Due to the presumably planned launch of a new type of glasses, the company is said to be very nervous.

Apple regularly launches new products. Every year, people around the world wait for new iPhones – but also for all the other innovations that the California-based tech company brings to the market.

According to unconfirmed reports, Apple is also working on a futuristic device called “Reality One” or “Reality Pro”. According to the rumor mill, these mixed reality glasses will be presented at the WWDC developer show in June.

Apple keynote on June 5
The American group announced this on Wednesday this year’s developer conference WWDC 2023 from Monday 5 June to Friday 9 June.

There will be video broadcasts for the entire event, which is primarily aimed at the global developer community. And as last year will to kick off a special event held at the Cupertino headquarters, to which media representatives have also been invited. Apple traditionally uses this show to announce news about the next versions of its operating systems (for the iPhone and Co.) and its own online services.

Apple is said to have been working on the goggle-like hardware for several years, so a lot of time and effort has gone into the product. But now, a few months before the supposedly planned performance, there was criticism – and from all the people in their own ranks.

Who should buy this?

As the New York Times (NYT) reports, initial employee enthusiasm for the glasses has waned. What remains now is skepticism. According to the report, eight employees of the company said so – former employees, as well as those still employed by the company. According to the report, they preferred to remain anonymous.

Apple employees have expressed concern about the alleged $3,000 price. They also fundamentally doubted the usefulness of the product. Moreover, it is still unproven whether there is a market for it at all.

According to the NYT, doubts about the glasses are so great that some employees have said goodbye to the project and dropped out. Even executives questioned the plan.

development continued

According to Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, Apple originally planned to launch the mixed reality headset in 2019. But as the problems piled up during development, the date was pushed further and further. The show is now scheduled for June. Individual software developers would have already received the device for testing.

There will be a whole new operating system for the product, Gurman reported. This should include mixed reality versions of Apple’s core apps such as Messages, FaceTime (video calling), and Maps. In addition, more than ten cameras would be integrated into the device.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment predictably on plans for future products.
