Turkish E-SUV 46,000 francs

Turkey is becoming the center of attention in the background on the international automobile scene. The country on the Bosphorus has long been one of Europe’s most important production locations. Here Fiat, Ford, Isuzu, Hyundai, Renault and especially Toyota manufacture vehicles for the European market. But until now, a separate Turkish brand was missing.

This situation is now changing with the Togg brand, which was founded in 2018. Unlike many other auto start-ups, Togg survived the corona pandemic unscathed. This should come as no surprise, given that the Turkish state was involved and pumped money to build the brand. The Turkish car is the personal concern of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69).

first cars in april

Now the dream of own vehicle brand comes true. The first vehicles will be delivered in early April, that is, within two weeks. To decide between all pre-orders by March. Togg is announcing the SUV from the very beginning: it will be called the T10X and is very similar to the research Erdogan presented himself in 2019. As is often the case, the production version looks a little more docile, with classic rear-view mirrors instead of cameras, for example, like in the study.

Networked and electric

Togg sees the T10X as a 21st century car or, in marketing jargon, a “mobile smart device.” Accordingly, the cockpit features 12-inch digital displays and a 29-inch touchscreen for infotainment. It has an artificial intelligence language assistant and offers apps for download from Togg or third parties. The infotainment system and navigation system must learn the user’s behavior over time and be able to anticipate their wishes. You should even be able to talk to the AI.

Of course, the Togg T10X runs all electric. To begin with, there is a rear-wheel drive version with 218 hp (160 kW) and 350 Nm. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and comes with two batteries. At 52.4 kilowatt hours (kWh), the smaller one offers a WLTP range of 314 kilometers with a consumption of 19.6 kWh per 100 kilometers. With the larger 88.5 kWh battery and 16.9 kWh consumption, 523 kilometers will be possible.

Four-wheel drive will come later

The T10X charges at 150 kilowatts (kW) on a fast charger; this means the smaller battery charges up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. An all-wheel drive version will follow in November with 435 hp (320 kW) and 700 Nm. It reaches 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The Turkish electric SUV is 4.60 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.68 meters high. Therefore, it competes in the highly competitive field of compact SUVs. Field conditions are typical for the classroom. The T10X offers a loading volume between 441 and 1515 liters in the trunk.

Competitive prices

In terms of prices, the Togg is at the even lower end of the category. In Turkey, the T10X starts at TL 953,000 – ie around 46,600 Francs and thus around Tesla Model Y, Polestar 2 or Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Togg T10X will likely be a bit expensive in the rest of Europe. Apart from this, the e-SUV will not be offered for sale in markets outside Turkey until the end of 2024. It is not yet clear whether Switzerland will be included.
