My walk is increasingly teeming with cyclists. So my question is: doesn’t a general riding ban apply to cyclists?

The answer to this question is simple: Driving is prohibited in the general driving ban! Also by bike. In order for the cyclist to be considered a pedestrian and therefore legally on the move, he must push his bike there on foot.

Bicycles and slow e-bikes, on the other hand, are allowed to ride on roads with signs indicating “motorized bicycles are prohibited”. But for fast electric bikes this only applies when the engine is off.

consideration and attention

If pedestrians and cyclists are allowed to use roads together, consideration (and attention!) is recommended to avoid conflicts and accidents. Cyclists who pass by pedestrians slowly and respectfully pose almost no danger or trouble. Especially if the bell is rung from a sufficient distance so that pedestrians are not scared to death. A small bell on the handlebars or rattling cards between the spokes can have the same effect.

Eye contact further fosters mutual trust and understanding. This is even easier if pedestrians also leave some space for bicycles to pass at sufficient distance. Quickly run to the right side of the road and say hello. This is how it works by crossing each other.
