TikTok is introducing a time limit for under 18s, but there is a loophole

TikTok aims to help teen users “manage their time on TikTok,” the company said in a press release. Specifically, this means that in the coming weeks, every account of a user under 18 will be automatically limited to 60 minutes of daily screen time.

Once the time limit has expired, teens will be prompted to enter a code to continue watching. So the teens or their parents should actively decide to extend their screen time.

The company bases this move on “ongoing research”. This has shown that a more conscious use of time can contribute to more enjoyment of social contacts and ‘culturally-defining entertainment’.

At the same time, it should be possible in the future for parents to adjust their children’s usage time to weekdays or holidays.

It has not yet been determined when the innovation will be played out.
