The canton of St. Gallen warns against scammers who appear on the social media platform Instagram with the coat of arms of St. Gallen and promise to win smartphones. The State Chancellery recommends not following these fake accounts (false profiles).
Since this week, criminals have been up to mischief with fake St.Gallen accounts, according to a statement from the State Chancellery on Friday. The canton’s official coat of arms and other published content would be copied.
The fraudster accounts are easy to spot, they say. They are private, do not have a blue check next to their profile name, and have few followers and messages.
Instead of the correct account name for the canton of St. Gallen “@kantonsg”, the scammers use names similar to “@kantonsg2”.
The St. Gallen State Chancellery is in contact with law enforcement agencies. She asks the population to be careful on social media. Fake accounts can be reported directly to Instagram.
