These are the strongest brands in the world – the Swiss company is amazed at its third place

How much is a brand worth and how strong is it? It’s a question every company asks. The strongest brands are usually large companies from the US or China. This year, however, there is also one from Switzerland in the foreground.

The British brand rating institute, Brand Finance, is considered one of the most reputable when it comes to rating global brands. Of the various reports, the annual “Global 500” is the most important.

The value and strength of a brand is judged based on many factors. The size of the company and the market is very important for the value of the brand. That’s why giants like Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft are at the top (see image below).

However, there was a big surprise in the last issue when it came to the power of the brand. Behind Google and Youtube, Swisscom completes the podium. WeChat was relegated to 4th place by 0.1 point. Compared to last year’s ranking, Swisscom has climbed 20 places and positioned itself as Europe’s strongest brand in the report. With Rolex, a second Swiss company made it to the top 25 in 19th place. The watch manufacturer made up 27 places.

But how did Swisscom get into the top 3? According to Brand Finance, these points made the difference:

  • Leading role in 5G
  • Sticking to physical sales areas (stores)
  • The consistent brand experience

At Swisscom, people are naturally happy when they are asked: “The strongest brand in Europe and the third strongest brand in the world, that’s a great result, we’re just really happy with it. The big leap forward surprised us a bit” , says media spokeswoman Annina Merk. However, there are also other measurements on which the company is developing positively.

This is what it looks like in Switzerland

Brand Finance also publishes the 50 most valuable and strongest brands in Switzerland every year. In June 2022, Nestlé was the most valuable brand and Swisscom was the strongest for the first time. At the time, the telecom giant still had an AAA rating, but it now has an AAA+ for the first time in the current world rankings. In the summer of 2022, Lindt was still second in Switzerland with 87.1 points. Currently, the chocolate manufacturer is lagging behind Rolex. The 2023 edition will not be published until June 2023.
