The first intelligent electric car charging app for Switzerland can do just that

The application launched by the Central Swiss energy company CKW distributes the network load when charging Tesla and Co.

When the electric cars are plugged into the socket to charge at home at the end of the day, this places a heavy burden on the electricity grid. A new app now controls the charging process and should contribute to grid stabilization.

The app can be used throughout Switzerland and is used by several vehicle types (see below) supported shared that Central Swiss energy company CKW, which offers the charging solution, on Tuesday. It is the first intelligent electric car charging app in the country.

“With the app, we are the first company to offer an innovative Swiss solution for grid stabilization, which also offers great added value for users.”

How does it work?

With the «CKW Smart Charging App» (for iPhone and for Android) the battery charging can be postponed to a period of less network load. In addition, off-peak hours can be saved.

Coordination with a photovoltaic system is also possible. This saves money because the charging current can be obtained at off-peak rates.

For the contribution to grid stabilization, users also receive a fee per kilowatt hour charged. According to the CKW website, you can up to 100 francs per year Switch off.

«Intelligent charging with the app works throughout Switzerland and can be used independently of the local energy company. Unlike bi-directional charging, smart charging does not cause additional charging cycles.”

The company announced via Twitter that the app would be even more adapted to the different electricity tariffs depending on the canton and the time of day.

Which electric cars does the app work with?

According to the press release, the “CKW Smart Charging App” is compatible with electric car models of the following brands or manufacturers:

  • Audi,
  • jaguar
  • Renault,
  • chair,
  • Skoda,
  • tesla,
  • Volkswagen.

The app can also be used for all other vehicle models in combination with an Easee charging station.

The number of e-cars has increased significantly in recent times. By 2022, every fourth newly registered car in Switzerland will be electric.

And now you!

Have you already tried the app? In principle, what do you think of controlling electricity consumption in this way?
