Normally, super sports cars like the Lamborghini Huracán lure customers with impressive driving performance and splendid handling on racetracks. It is therefore surprising that the Sterrato, which was introduced at the Art Basel art fair in Miami (USA), has become a so-called all-terrain vehicle. Technicians from Sant’Agata Bolognese (I) not only increased the Huracán’s ground clearance by 4.4 centimeters, but also gave the front and rear axles a wider track of around three centimeters.
The mid-engine athlete’s driving is well known. That’s because the Sterrato is also powered by the legendary 5.2-liter ten-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that delivers 610 hp (449 kW) and 560 Nm of maximum torque. Would a customer want to get lost in the field with this 4×4 athlete? Forced – Lamborghini also has significantly better cars, like the SUV best-selling Urus.
Nobody needs it, everybody wants it
But as with the recently unveiled Porsche 911 Dakar, it shows that manufacturers can easily sell such vehicles to collectors and fans alike at very affordable prices. Like the Porsche 911 Dakar, the Huracán Sterrato is only available in limited numbers – from February 2023, exactly 1,499 copies will be produced and distributed among off-road Lamborghini students. “With the Sterrato high-speed concept for all surfaces, we have uniquely combined the experience behind the wheel of a true super sports car with the driving pleasure of a rally car,” explains Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer. Lamborghini: “Lamborghini vehicles always evoke emotion and the Sterrato takes driving excitement to a new level!”
A car that almost no one has ever missed, but that shines with one advantage: It differs from the vast majority of other sports cars. And since many customers today are primarily interested in being different for attention, there is no obstacle to the success of the all-wheel drive Sterrato next year.
Off-road, ready, go
Customers will hardly be bothered that the driving performance is worse than the comparable Huracán Evo due to the varying design and potential application area. Because even with 3.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of “only” 260 km/h, you can draw attention with this design. In addition to the increased ground clearance and wider track, there are aluminum underbody protection at the front, reinforced rocker panels and a rustic-looking rear diffuser and wide fenders. The well-known air intake on the rear bonnet not only accentuates the appearance, but also ensures that fresh air is supplied to the engine on dusty slopes.
If a customer gets lost on impassable slopes, a limited-slip differential on the rear axle, carbon-ceramic brake discs and special off-road tires help the inexperienced off-roader not get stuck in the first ditch. Thanks to the run-flat technology, Sterrato can travel approximately 80 kilometers to a safe area in case of a flat tire.
For deadly fans
The interior of the rustic Huracán sibling manifests itself in the famous noble Lamborghini design with Alcantara upholstery. The touchscreen has graphics and features specifically designed for off-road driving. For the first time, there is a digital display for measuring the vehicle’s tilt angle, a compass and a display for geographic coordinates and steering angle. The off-road Lambo is probably the right toy for 1,499 collectors with the necessary cash in their account: Lamborghini is still quiet on price, but the Huracán Sterrato should cost well over 300,000 francs.
