Swisscom and Sunrise again with the best mobile networks

The mobile networks of Swisscom and Sunrise have been rated “excellent” again by the trade magazine “Connect”. However, Salt is moving noticeably closer to the two larger telecom providers.

The German trade magazine “Connect” found nothing but praise for Switzerland in its annual mobile phone test published on Tuesday evening. Compared to Germany and Austria, the country shows which requirements can be set. In particular, the difference between urban and rural areas is much less pronounced in Switzerland than in the two neighboring countries.

Swisscom leads the ranking for the fifth time in a row. With 970 out of a possible 1000 points (last year 976 points), the “blue giant” placed just ahead of its competitor Sunrise, who had 959 points (last year 966 points).

The fact that both telecom providers have lost ground compared to last year is mainly due to the tightening of the assessment criteria. Both providers again received the test result “excellent” and are therefore among the best providers in the German-speaking area.

Salt is noticeably catching up

But Salt doesn’t have to hide either. The mobile network does only slightly worse with 945 points. The test result “excellent” was missed by just under 5 points.

Especially in big cities, Salt is almost comparable to Sunrise. When it comes to data usage, for example via apps, messengers or streaming, Sunrise and Salt differ only slightly. In this category, Swisscom is “a hair’s breadth ahead” according to the test.

When it came to data radio on the train, Salt could even catch up to Sunrise. However, the lead is only a few points.

Significant increase in 5G

The expansion of 5G is now in full swing in Switzerland. “All Swiss providers have taken an important step forward in the expansion of 5G – Salt most clearly,” says Connect author Hannes Rügheimer in the press release.

The Connect testers covered about 6,700 kilometers in Switzerland for the test. These included car journeys, long-distance train journeys, and trips to nine cities on foot. According to Connect, the measurement campaign covered about a quarter of the Swiss population. The test took place at the end of October to the beginning of November this year.
