The closing credits of “7 vs. Wild” state: “Abandoned on a tropical island, seven candidates fight for seven days to survive.” Yet it looks like the reality show isn’t just about fighting the wilderness.
At least that’s what many fans are accusing the production of. Because they are currently noticing the thumbnails on YouTube, which should get as many clicks as possible. There is a lot of discussion on Twitter and under the episodes. There are allegations of sexism in the room, but there are also double standards.
“I find the selection of the thumbnail in episode four of ‘7 vs. Wild’ extremely interesting,” one user wrote on Twitter. A thumbnail is the image you see when you click on a YouTube video.
The purpose of the thumbnail is to attract as many viewers as possible. In episode four of “7 vs. Wild”, candidate Sabrina can be seen bathing in a stream wearing only her underwear.
It’s not just a Twitter user who finds the selection of a photo of a scantily clad survival show contestant inappropriate. “The thumbnail of the new ‘7 vs. Wild’ episode is by no means clickbait,” another user writes wryly.
The accusation here: the production follows the “Sex sells” strategy and uses a nude female body to market its own videos in the best possible way. The fans don’t like it at all.
The thumbnail of the new 7vs wild episode is definitely not clickbait 🌚

However, other Twitter users also note that the production of the reality format is not the first time that nudity has tried to get a high number of views. “It’s funny, with the naked Otto, the episode before that nobody complained,” one user criticizes the behavior of other fans, diagnosing a double standard.
Another user also notes that candidate Otto was already completely naked in the thumbnail. He finds it problematic that “no one is talking about the episode three thumbnail,” implying that people don’t care about a naked male body, although this is also used for clicks.
Funny, nobody complained about the naked Otto episode before

I thought both thumbnails were rather poorly chosen. That these images are used at all is just cheese, but they are clicked faster and better.

Among the various tweets, fans are discussing the nudity of both candidates. Viewers are also reacting to the alleged double standards.
“Men just aren’t ‘sex selling’ enough for our patriarchy,” says one user, discovering that the problem is actually a general societal problem that goes way beyond YouTube or Twitter.
Nevertheless, 7 vs. Wild fans agree that nudity, by anyone, is “cheese” as a sales strategy.
