There is no peace on Twitter: after an ultimatum from Elon Musk to the remaining employees, apparently many employees have resigned.
We’ve heard that Elon Musk and his team are afraid that the employees will sabotage the company. Also, they are still trying to figure out which Twitter employees to remove access to.”
The “Spectator Index” and technology insider service Platformer report that Twitter has closed its offices in San Francisco and employees are no longer allowed to enter.
Musk had given Twitter staff the choice to work longer and harder or leave the company. Those who leave will receive three months’ salary. To be successful, “we have to be extremely hardcore,” he explained.
Musk recently laid off nearly half of the short message service’s workforce. The New York Times (NYT) reported that hundreds of layoffs were received shortly before the 5 p.m. local time deadline set by Musk. This was also confirmed by the tech website The Verge, which referred to internal posts on Slack.
According to Reuters, there are early signs of a mass exodus of the workforce. According to a survey by a website that measures employee satisfaction, 42 percent of 180 Twitter employees said they wanted to leave the company.
Musk and his advisers met with executives to avoid customer churn, according to the NYT. He had sent unclear emails about the possibility of working from home. Shortly after the acquisition, Musk announced that he would scrap the home office option. There was resistance from the staff and a lawsuit was even filed.
Twitter itself has so far not responded – probably also because Musk recently closed the press department.
The founder of Tesla and SpaceX has so far kept a low profile. He simply wrote on Twitter: “How to make a small fortune on social media? Start with a big one.” Musk paid about $44 billion to acquire the company.
The entrepreneur is also threatened with difficulties from the official side. Seven senators have called on the US Consumer Protection Agency (FTC) to review recent Twitter operations.
The company is proceeding without regard for users, it said in a letter from Democrats to FTC Chair Lina Khan on Thursday. “In recent weeks, new Twitter boss Elon Musk has taken alarming actions that have undermined the platform’s integrity and security,” they wrote.
The FTC must also check whether the Tesla boss violated an agreement made with the authority in May.
