do you hear that sound? It’s not the waves hitting the beach, it’s the reactions to the start of the second season of “7 vs. Wild”.
The first episode has been on YouTube since Friday (November 5). And by now it should be clear to all doubters that the low-budget production will become an internet hit in 2022. PS: The first video now has over 4.6 million views – more audience than any TV show.
This post focuses on the key questions and answers about Episode 1, including information from the first “behind the scenes” and “reaction” videos.
PS: The article contains no spoilers. In order not to spoil the tension, the quotes mentioned were not awarded to any of the seven participants.
Season 2 kicked off last Friday with a bang. Hundreds of thousands of fans wanted to see the video as soon as it was released. The relatively short first episode (only a good 27 minutes running time) has already reached more than 4.5 million views.
According to the production team, “7 vs. Wild” is the largest YouTube project for creators in Europe.
To get in the mood (and if you have the time), I recommend watching the following «behind the scenes» video before the 1st episode. This gives a good impression of the general terms and conditions and the final preparations.
In the pre-video, the audience also hears Otto complaining about “incredible pain in his back, thighs and butt” shortly before the start. It looked like one of the crowd favorites had already been counted on.
With a blow.
More is not being revealed at this time.
The smart YouTubers have already achieved one goal: what is shown is discussed intensively – on all social media platforms. In particular, it is also about the question of which of the participants has the best place.
That remains (even after the 1st episode) doubtful.
The perfectly staged intro, accompanied by dramatic music, shows poisonous plants (manchinel tree with “apples of death”) and predators (alligators).
The fact is: even if the participants are released by helicopter, a dangerous scene is created. Lead organizer and contestant Fritz Meinecke later confirmed this in his first “Reaction” video.
It’s worth taking a look, not just for those interested in surviving. The German YouTube production offers good entertainment for young and old. As heard, the cost should be several hundred thousand dollars – a no brainer compared to considerably more expensive TV productions, which the experienced YouTubers have no need to hide from.
The ones shown at the end Sample series for future episodes show that the two young women and five men at “7 vs. Wild” in Panama reach their personal performance limits (and beyond).
Participants in original sound:
Now, such statements, which the production team skilfully cut into the closing credits of the first episode, are, of course, intended cliffhangers. The aim is to increase the excitement of the crowd, because apart from the introduction of the seven participants and their abandonment in the remote Pearl Islands, there was not much to see in the first 30 minutes.
However, this should not belittle the incredible achievement of the relatively small production team. “7 vs. Wild” also convinces in the sequel with perfectly choreographed scenes and professional camera work. The recordings of helicopters and drones (quadcopter) are ingenious, and there is also an immersive sound.
What is definitely missing are editorial text overlays about the conditions on site, especially temperature information (air and water). The creators of “7 vs. Wild” should urgently be inspired by the great role model, the TV survival experiment “Alone” – that’s where Fritz Meinecke got the idea for his YouTube format.
Watson has nothing to complain about. Did I mention that YouTube is an ad-supported platform? In addition to the annoying, fortunately short commercial breaks, there is a 30-second commercial break at the beginning. In it, Fritz advertises the products of a well-known phone case manufacturer – the main sponsor supporting the project since season 1.
The sequel to 7 vs. Wild has been received with great enthusiasm, judging by the reactions on social media and the reaction videos.
There are also thoughtful voices.
Speaking of spoilers:
Astute observers complained that the producers screwed up the preview sequences (at the end of the first episode) – either accidentally or on purpose. You see a crying participant with tweezers in her hand sitting in front of an open “medikit”.
Here it is important to remember the rules of the game that in addition to camera equipment and satellite communication equipment for emergency calls, etc., all participants have two packages available for medical first aid:
It cannot be deduced from the scene shown that the participant had to drop out early.
Here!
A total of 17 episodes are planned. According to the announcement, it should be every Wednesday and Saturday in November and December 2022 each at 6 p.m. give a new one.
