With this electric car, Audi is launching its major electric car offensive

Audi is back: a new electric SUV should herald a major offensive with new electric models. The Q6 E-tron gets fast charging, powerful motors and unique lighting technology.

More than a year late, Audi is launching a new electric SUV. The 4.77 meter long Q6 E-tron was developed together with Porsche and is based on the new electric car platform ‘Premium Platform Electric’ (PPE).

PPE quickly explained
The PPE (Premium Platform Electric) is a technology platform that Audi developed together with Porsche. It is specially made for electric vehicles. The platform can be adapted to different battery sizes and wheelbases. This means that various models in the middle and upper class segments can be created on this basis.

With the new platform for electric cars, Audi is launching the second phase of its offensive for electric cars: Audi boss Gernot Döllner emphasized in an interview with the FAZ that he cannot expect an alternative to battery-electric propulsion: “We should discussions currently taking place should not upset. The future of cars is clearly electric!” The upcoming Q6 E-tron is the vanguard of further electric cars on the new electric car platform.

Anyone who cannot get used to the SUV format will be offered an alternative this year in the form of the A6 E-tron.

Market introduction and prices

An earlier market introduction was originally planned, but the Q6 E-tron should now be available from dealers before the summer holidays. Audi specifies the starting price at 85,900 francs. With the launch of the Q6 E-tron, Audi wants to start a broad offensive with more electric cars. The VW Group brand had not launched a new model for more than three years.

Achievements and variants

The Q6 E-tron will initially be offered in two all-wheel drive variants. Their engines produce 387 hp and 517 hp respectively and are powered by a 100 kWh battery. This enables a range of up to 625 kilometers and speeds of up to 230 km/h. Two rear-wheel drive cars with smaller batteries (83 kWh) will follow later to bring the price below 80,000 francs.

The charging power (800 volt battery system) is up to 270 kW, allowing sufficient electricity to be charged in just ten minutes for a range of up to 255 kilometers. The Q6 with battery conditioning achieves an average charging power of almost 190 kW, an absolute top value

Active lighting and karaoke

The rear trunk holds between 526 and 1529 liters, and there is also a second 64 liter trunk under the front hood. In the interior, Audi uses a new digital cockpit and an XXL head-up display. The wheelbase of 2.90 meters should provide sufficient space in the back.

Completely new on board is active light (“Active Digital Light Signature”): six OLED panels on the back produce a new image every ten milliseconds. Small warning triangles even appear when the hazard lights are on. Twelve dimming and dimming elements are used at the front, while up to eight different light signatures can be freely selected for the daytime running lights of the matrix LED headlights.

And if you want to be even more playful: the Q6 E-tron can also do karaoke if you are stuck in traffic for hours with the family – a feature that is mainly intended to appeal to Asian customers.
