It will finally hit the streets in the summer: What can the new electric Audi Q6 E-Tron do?

When we first look at the new 4.77 meter long Audi Q6 E-Tron, two details attract our attention: the short body overhangs and the prominent shoulder edge on the rear fender. To make the Q6 E-Tron look as athletic as possible, Audi designers stretched the biceps hard.

It’s a matter of taste. Just like the front and back light tricks. Thanks to modern OLEDs, Q6 E-Tron drivers can choose from eight different daylight signatures for the matrix LED headlights. The taillights are more interesting and much more than a gimmick. They can communicate with the environment in dangerous situations. When you activate the hazard lights or open the car doors and a cyclist approaches at the same time, a digital warning triangle appears in the taillights. «We are proud of what we have achieved with our lights. No one else has this,” says Stefan Berlitz, head of lighting development at Audi. In fact, Audi is taking a first, albeit rudimentary, step in car-to-X communication for large-scale production, thus improving the safety of all road users.

Classic center console

Inside, Audi stays true to itself and sticks to the classic center console with automatic gear lever. In our opinion, Porsche colleagues have solved this more elegantly with the twin Macan Electric. The gear lever has been moved above the dashboard to create more space in the middle. Still, there’s plenty of space in the Q6 E-Tron. Even adults can sit comfortably in the back, and boot capacity is between 526 and 1529 liters. There is also a 64-litre storage compartment under the front bonnet; useful for storing charging cables, for example.

Audi is now following the curved screen trend in the cockpit as well. The screen for the virtual instruments is 11.9 inches, while the touchscreen is an impressive 14.5 inches. Audi’s new screen for the front passenger is 10.9 inches in size. The augmented reality head-up display uses the windshield as an 88-inch screen, essentially projecting its information directly onto the road. The infotainment system is based on the E3 architecture with software 1.2 of the PPE platform, and this is the main reason why the Audi Q6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan E entered the market only with a delay of almost two years. But we are now confident that everything should work and an app store for third-party applications is also integrated into the tool.

The battery of the new Audi electric SUV has a gross capacity of 100 kWh. Audi will also offer versions with 83 kWh batteries later. Thanks to 800 volt technology, the Q6 E-Tron can be charged up to 270 kW at the DC fast charging station and the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. Audi also specialized in banking. The battery can be charged twice at a 400-volt charging station at up to 135 kW. Great technology. But it’s less wonderful that a premium vehicle with such a large battery can be charged with just 11 kW from an AC wall charger. We promise this will change with one of the next model updates.

Prices start from 85,900 francs

At the start of sales (orders from 27 March, first deliveries in the summer) Audi is offering two Quattro variants: Q6 E-Tron 55 from 85,900 francs (387 hp/285 kW, 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, 210 km/h in 5.9 seconds). s) km/h top speed, 625 km range) and SQ6 E-Tron from 101,300 francs (517 hp/380 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, 230 km/h top speed, 600 km range) . For comparison: the twin Porsche Macan 4 Electric has a starting price of 95,800 francs (408 hp/300 kW, 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, 220 km/h top speed, 625 km range). However, Audi is also planning other versions of the Q6 E-Tron; an entry-level version with rear-wheel drive and a range of up to 700 kilometers, as well as a particularly sporty RS model.
