Anyone looking for a new car can now find electric alternatives in every segment. Whether it is a small or sports car, a compact SUV or a station wagon with ample luggage space. But there’s one thing you’ve been searching for in vain so far: an electric muscle car. Of course, when petrolheads think of a roaring US muscleman, they probably think of a roaring V8 engine (also interesting: you can’t get a more powerful car than the Hennessey Demon 1700).
However, it has been known for a while that the US manufacturer Dodge wants to offer its famous Charger model electric in the future. Now the American muscle car veteran has celebrated its premiere in the new generation. And many fans were quick to lift the load off their gasoline engine hearts: The new Charger will continue to have internal combustion engine versions as well as electric models.
Still, Dodge wants to do nothing more than usher in a “new era” of powerful cars with electric models. So it’s no surprise that the Charger Daytona Scat Pack is an electric car that has become the top model. According to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, the previous supercharger should deliver the performance of the Hellcat Redeye and also be able to keep up with the sound thanks to a special exhaust chamber sound system. The Daytona Scat Pack balances a maximum power of 670 hp (493 kW) on asphalt with an electric motor on the front and rear axles. The weaker Stromer model Daytona R/T also has all-wheel drive and still has 496 hp (365 kW).
The e-muscle cars are powered by a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack that reaches a peak discharge rate of 550 kW; This is specifically designed to access power as quickly as possible. Both models charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes at fast charging stations; However, Dodge is not yet close to the charging king Porsche Taycan’s times. For muscle cars, Daytona electric cars achieve acceptable ranges of 418 (Scat Pack) and 510 kilometers (R/T).
But many Dodge fans will probably leave the hot electric versions indifferent; They were impatiently waiting for the big blocks that consumed liters of fuel under the fighting sheet. Still disappointed? The new generation still comes with a combustion engine and in two versions. But without the beloved V8! The 550 hp (404 kW) Dodge Charger Sixpack HO and the 420 hp (309 kW) Sixpack SO are powered by a twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine that replaces the previous V8.
Production of combustion engines, as well as four-door versions of electric vehicles, will not start until 2025. The two-door Dodge Charger Daytona will be produced starting in mid-2024 and is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. Exact market launch and prices have not been announced yet.
