Wow, hybrids can be so economical!

before the trip

After eccentric attempts before, the eleventh Civic generation is officially good-natured and unpretentious again. The elongated body, which ends in a hatchback and is just 1.40 meters high, is 4.55 meters and almost 27 centimeters longer than a VW Golf. The interior is really beautiful – a successful mix of classic and modern. Rotary controls alternate with buttons and touchscreen. Very eye-catching: the ventilation strip that extends almost to the entire dashboard.

on the street

While driving, the cockpit vibrates for a long time and stays fresh. The room climate becomes more pleasant when only two heating controls are at 26 degrees (!). But we’re warming up faster with Honda’s driving. The hybrid Civic drives with great agility, steers and moves with extreme precision and springs sharply but never jerks. Some competitors from the compact class do not do this very well.

That was great

The hybrid drive of the Honda Civic e:HEV works in a complex way. At average speeds, for example, in the city, you usually drive with an electric motor of 184 hp. If more power is required, the system switches to hybrid mode. Meaning: We still drive with the electric motor, but the electric power is produced by the gasoline engine via a second, smaller electric motor that works as a generator. At constant highway speeds, the petrol engine directly drives the front wheels. If you need even more power, the electric motor provides additional support. It sounds confusing and complicated, but in practice it works in a completely unobtrusive way. And it is extremely efficient. Despite the fast driving at times, our consumption reached an economical 4.9 liters!

that was weak

The multimedia system with the navigation system looks quite old. Also, DAB radio reception was poor. There is the possibility of mirroring the mobile and integrating Google.

it remains

Near-perfect hybrid technology. There are no signs of the complex interaction of the three engines. The drive seems to be made from one piece. And somehow, despite everything, Honda managed to keep the weight at a reasonable 1.5 tons. The price is also pretty decent, even the basic equipment is pretty generous for what’s on offer.
