Koenigsegg comes to Auto Zurich

Two cars. Over 1000 hp each and several million francs expensive. Koenigsegg brings a small fortune to Zurich in two weeks. The Swedish hypercar brand is showcasing its two latest models, the Gemera and the CC850, at Auto Zurich (November 10-13, 2022). With the CC850, Koenigsegg is also celebrating a European premiere in its first ever participation at the largest auto show in Switzerland, currently in Switzerland. So far only seen during Monterey Car Week in California (USA).

Twenty years ago, the Swedish brand launched its first model, the CC8S, and took its place in the automobile world. With him, Christian von Koenigsegg (50) followed his words with action eight years after founding the company. At the age of 22, he decided to build a super sports car. Today, Ängelholm’s models are record-breaking cars and among the world’s most sought-after hypercars. They are in the record books as the strongest or fastest cars (click here for Koenigsegg record history).

Revolutionary gear

With the CC850, Koenigsegg honors the anniversary of its first production model. The 4.36-long hypercar has 1185 hp (872 kW). With special E-85 fuel, the 5.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol engine even delivers 1385 hp (1019 kW)! Maximum torque of 1385 Nm goes to the rear wheels only. Mileage data is not yet known. It will definitely be fast. That’s why Swedes prefer to highlight their revolutionary gear.

The CC850 can be shifted manually with six gears or automatically with nine gears. Koenigsegg calls it the Engage Shift System, and it shifts gears differently depending on the driving mode you’re in, or whether you want to go to the regular street or the racetrack. The nine-speed automatic transmission is comfortable. If you prefer to shift gears yourself – using the clutch and manual shift lever as usual – you can use six gears. Cool: The gearshift linkage is open for a racecar-style clatter when shifting.

The world’s fastest hybrid

Auto Zürich offers a unique opportunity to watch the rare anniversary of Koenigsegg up close – the Swedes want to make just 50 of the CC850. In contrast, the Gemera with 300 planned parts is relatively mass-produced. But that doesn’t make it any less spectacular: It combines a four-seat hybrid drive and is said to reach 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.

The hybrid drive consists of three electric motors and three cylinders mounted as the central motor. This petrol engine alone delivers 600 hp (441 kW) and 600 Nm from a displacement of two liters. There is also an electric motor with an additional 500 hp (368 kW) and 1000 Nm for each rear wheel. The third electric motor on the crankshaft provides 400 hp (294 kW) and 500 Nm. Delivers insane 1700 hp (1250 kW) and 3500 Nm system performance!

It’s almost trivial if the Gemera manages 50 kilometers entirely on electricity and has 800-volt fast charging technology like the Rimac Nevera, Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6. What’s left is the world’s most powerful and fastest four-seater! After all, it wouldn’t be a Koenigsegg if it didn’t go faster than 400 km/h. For four days, however, the CC850 and Gemera stood still in Auto Zurich, racing visitors’ dreams.
