Ever since the announcement of the new Tesla Roadster, the automotive world has been eagerly awaiting its launch. As early as 2017, it was said that the electric car would break records and reach a top speed of over 400 km/h, among other things. Even this figure seemed extremely ambitious. However, true to the motto “faster, higher, further”, Tesla boss Elon Musk (52) has now raised the bar and announced that the targets have been greatly increased again on the social media platform X.

I can’t go any faster

Since the Twitter takeover, we know that if Elon Musk wants something, he gets what he wants; For the multi-billionaire, money plays a minor role. Musk’s statements are therefore even more interesting and raise the question of what exactly will be achieved with the new Roadster. To one of these goals, Musk responds in the same headline: The Roadster should be able to run from 0 to 60 miles per hour (60 mph equals 96.5 km/h) in less than a second. This means the roadster will outperform even supercars costing millions like the Rimac Nevera or Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. Could Tesla’s super electric car have what it takes to beat ETH electric car Mythen’s legendary world record? Students at a Swiss university have set a new best time for the prestige sprint by September 2023: their self-made e-bolid reached 100 km/h in just 0.956 seconds.

It remains unclear how the Tesla Roadster will achieve a similar top value. But Musk at least gives a hint: Tesla is said to be collaborating with space company SpaceX on the new Roadster. This wouldn’t be the first time a Tesla Roadster reached record speeds with help from SpaceX; In 2018, Musk launched a Roadster into space with his Falcon Heavy rocket.

Presentation at the end of the year

Elon Musk is at least revealing details about the status of development: The product design is ready, the first presentation will be at the end of the year; According to him, this will be one of the most striking product demonstrations ever. Sales are expected to begin as early as 2025. But it is now well known that Elon Musk is not always so particular about the appointments he promises.
