Now the all-new ninth generation is in its infancy and will be available at Swiss dealers from March. Passat has gasoline engine, diesel engine, mild hybrid and rechargeable hybrid options; There is no fully electric version available yet. This task will be fulfilled by the ID.7 Tourer (the station wagon version of the recently launched ID.7 electric sedan), which will be officially introduced from the end of summer.

Designers were left out of work all the way to the B-pillar; Sedan and Tourer are exactly the same here. Above the curved side line, the roof tapers in typical station wagon fashion, although it is slightly flatter than in the Passat Variant. The dimensions are also the same as the ID.7 with a length of 4.96 meters (wheelbase 2.97 m). The decisive factor for a station wagon is, of course, the significantly increased loading volume compared to a hatchback. Depending on whether the rear seat backrest is in standard or cargo position, 545 to 605 liters can be stored in the trunk. When the rear seat is folded and the load is loaded up to the ceiling and the backrests of the front seats, the volume increases to 1714 liters. It’s reasonable value – but the conventional Passat charges slightly more, at 690 to 1920 litres.

VW’s augmented reality head-up display is installed as standard on the Tourer, meaning the instrument cluster is similar to the ID.7. relatively small. Also included are LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch wheels, heated front seats, as well as keyless access and a backup camera. The so-called health function is also new: Three different programs have been designed to relax or revitalize the driver and front passenger with light, music and massage. Additional functions such as illuminated VW logos (only with IQ Light Matrix LED technology) or a large panoramic roof require additional payment.

The ID.7 Tourer is initially offered in two versions: Pro and Pro S; The difference between models is only in battery sizes. Both models have the same 286 hp (210 kW) power and 545 Nm electric motor at the rear axle.

The Pro model gets its energy from a 77 kilowatt-hour battery. It is absorbed with a maximum of 175 kW on the DC fast charger. It then takes 28 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent. WLTP range is 600 kilometers on a full charge. With Pro S, these values ​​increase slightly again. The 86 kWh battery charges even faster at 200 kW (10-80 percent in under 30 minutes) and can achieve a WLTP range of 675 km.

The ID.7 Tourer is planned to be introduced in late summer 2024. Compared to the ID.7’s price starting from 68,800 francs, the Tourer is likely to start around 70,000 francs.
