The Smart EQ Fortwo is no longer officially sold in Switzerland.
Raoul SchwinnenEditor Car and Mobility

Don’t tip over! Last year the Romanian Dacia Spring Electric was the cheapest electric car in Switzerland, but this year it had to give up its leading position. There’s no doubt that the cheap small electric car segment is on the move.

Popular Bonsai electric vehicles such as the Smart EQ Fortwo or VW E-Up have now disappeared from the market. New models such as the Chinese JAC e-JS1 and e-JS4 or the Citroën ë-C3 are trying their luck in the Swiss new car market. Others, such as the Renault R5 Electric, which will soon replace the Zoe, are in the starting blocks. VW’s low-cost electric car, which was announced only years ago at a price of 25,000 francs, is still a long time away.

These were the cheap cars in Switzerland in spring 2023
cheap but cheap
The 11 cheapest cars in Switzerland

But here are the ten cheapest new electric cars right now, compiled with price information from manufacturers’ Swiss websites.

10

Nissan Leaf, starting from 31,990 francs

Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf was the first electric car in the compact class in 2010. And with that we open the list of the ten cheapest electric cars in Switzerland. The second generation of the Japanese abandoned the extravagant design and visually turned into a “normal” car. The Nissan Leaf is available in two battery sizes with a range of 270 to 385 kilometers.

Peugeot e-208, prices starting from 31,050 francs

Peugeot e-208

Still relatively young, auto giant Stellantis is becoming an electric pioneer. Almost no other company has such affordable electric vehicles. The Peugeot e-208 starts at 31,050 francs with 136 hp (100 kW) and a range of 346 kilometers. The second, more powerful model has 156 hp (115 kW) and a range of 383 kilometers, but its price starts from 36,950 francs.

8.

Renault Zoe E-Tech Evolution, starting from 31,300 francs

Renault Zoe

Renault was one of the pioneers of e-mobility in 2013 with the Zoe. The electric city car with 135 hp (100 kW) and a range of 385 kilometers was the best-selling electric car in Switzerland for a long time. The competition is now bigger and Zoe, which has been on the market since 2019, is starting to get a little old. This year it will be replaced by the Renault 5 Electric, which will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show at the end of the month.

JAC e-JS4 starts from 29,989 francs

JAC e-JS4 – 2023

Importer Auto Kunz from Wohlen AG is, as usual, aggressively pricing its Chinese electric vehicles in Switzerland. In fact, the list price of the Chinese E-SUV was to be 35,989 francs. But the importer is currently offering a discount of 6,000 francs, making the JAC e-JS4 the seventh-cheapest electric car in Switzerland and an attractively priced alternative to the competition. Among the many small cars in our popular parade, you’ll get a lot of car for your money with the compact e-JS4.

6

Opel Corsa Electric, starting from 29,790 francs

Opel Corsa Electric

One in every three Opel Corsas sold is electric. This rate will be increased further thanks to the currently valid jackpot of 3,000 francs. Thanks to the generous discount, the Corsa Electric is also among the top ten cheapest electric cars in Switzerland. The Corsa Electric was recently factory refurbished. In addition to the 136 hp (100 kW) version, it is also available with a more powerful 156 hp (115 kW) unit and a more efficient battery. The long-range GS version now offers a range of up to 405 kilometers.

5

Fiat 500e starts from 29,600 francs

Fiat 500e

Like Opel and Peugeot, Fiat belongs to the Stellantis Group. However, an electric version of the iconic 500 was developed before the merger. That’s why there’s Fiat electrical engineering under the sheet metal. The stylish 500e is available with two different batteries with a range of 180 or 320 kilometers. Propulsion is provided by a 95 hp (70 kW) or 118 hp (87 kW) electric motor. The 500e is also available as a convertible or as a three-door with dual opposing doors on the passenger side.

4

Citroën ë-C3, starting from 24,690 francs

Citroen ë-C3

Another model from Stellantis Group. And this Citroën is a direct declaration of war on VW: while the Germans have long been advertising their small electric cars for 25,000 francs, while they are still not in the dealer showroom, the French were faster. And even cheaper. The price of the Citroën ë-C3, an electric mini SUV from France with a length of 4.02 meters and a range of 320 WLTP kilometers, starts from 24,690 francs.

3

Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric, starting from 22,000 francs

Renault Twingo Electric

Collaborations bring lower prices to customers. The third cheapest electric car on our list once had a sibling. The Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric shares technology with the Smart EQ Forfour, which is no longer available in Switzerland. An 83 hp (60 kW) electric motor provides propulsion, just like in the Smart EQ Fortwo. However, thanks to its larger battery, Twingo can travel 190 kilometers without needing to be plugged in again. Interesting: Despite the new import tax, the Twingo has not become more expensive – and will be followed in 2026 by a new electric Twingo with round Kuller headlights, visually in the exact original Twingo style.

2

Dacia Spring Electric, starting from 19,990 francs

Dacia Spring Electric

Dacia had to give up its top spot last year, becoming “only” the second cheapest electric car in Switzerland. But the Romanian budget brand continues to offer basic electric mobility. Spring Electric was designed for the city with a range of 220 kilometers and a length of 3.71 meters. This affordable electric vehicle evokes a sense of adventure with its rugged appearance.

one

JAC e-JS1 starts from 16,989 francs

JAC e-JS1

The four-door small car JAC e-JS1 from China, imported and offered for sale by Auto Kunz in Wohlen, is currently the cheapest electric car in Switzerland. With a range of up to 330 kilometers in long-range mode, the tiny electric car with 61 hp (45 kW) definitely offers everyday qualities. But only a few new vehicles are available. But the next delivery from China is on its way. However, the price of these models is 17,689 francs. The reason for this is the new import tax applied to electric cars since January 1.
