Human error, the main entry point for cyber attacks

According to a Verizon report last year, 74% of cyber security breaches involve the human factorgenerally due to user error that compromises the security of the entire organization.

By simply clicking on a malicious link from your work computer, for example, gives access to a cybercriminal not only with the information of the associates, but also with the company’s data.

Samantha Nanne, Head of Culture at Sistemas Aplicativos SA (Sisap)a technology and information security company, emphasizes the importance of developing cybersecurity skills and knowledge within the organizational culture.

Share some recommendations through which it is possible to promote cyber security and raise awareness of its importance within the company.

First, he recommends starting with the team leaders, and then, conduct identity theft exercisestraining associates through exercises, occasionally sending them an e-mail or a message that simulates phishing, in order to test each individual’s skills in recognizing these threats.

It also suggests using short and specific messages for training associates in cybersecurity measures for maximum understanding and using real-life cases as examples.

“With this, we will understand the consequences that fraud can cause, as well as protective measuresThey were used in cases where an attack was prevented,” the expert noted.

Finally, Nanne is for a reward system, in order to motivate employees to continue developing good cybersecurity practicesespecially those who successfully pass the exam exercises.

“People always go back to making the same mistakes, so These trainings and exercises must be conducted periodically to change the mentality of each individual and prevent him from becoming a victim of a cyber threat,” believes the culture manager in Sisap.
