When it comes to cars, Simon Moser (43) and Michel Schelker (31) disagree. Otherwise, morning show hosts and podcasters get along fine. Schelker says he is “autosexual” in the 253rd episode of the successful podcast “The Consultation Hour – with Moser & Schelker”. However, for Moser, a vehicle must be safe above all else. Both currently drive a subscription electric Porsche Taycan. They now let the community choose which car to drive next.

How do you let others decide which car you drive?

Simon Moser: Carvolution challenged us: The community should decide on a subscription basis which car we will drive in the future. Important: It must be the same model for both.
Michel Schelker: For that reason alone it’s a really stupid idea. Simon wants a safe family car with plenty of space. I want a sporty vehicle with lots of horsepower. You see, we disagree at all.

But from the very beginning: How did you get the tool subscription?

– Schelker: Last summer we were looking for a suitable solution for our cars. First of all, we examined classic partnerships with brands. But it really worked with Carvolution’s car subscription.
– Moser: Shortly after, we set out with a subscription.

Did you know the concept of car subscription before?

– Moser: I had always heard of Carvolution’s car subscription, but to be honest I had never learned about it in detail. Many people are probably like me: they don’t think enough about car costs.
– Schelker: Interestingly, my father-in-law decided to get a car subscription from Carvolution. As a car enthusiast, I had taken a closer look at the subscription. I find the topic exciting and the benefits of vehicle subscription impressive.

What surprised you?

– Moser: Initially, I thought it was great that with Carvolution you don’t have to worry about payment, insurance, and everything else related to your car. I really had no idea about the costs because my partner always took care of the car and therefore all the bills. But now I can do it too (laughs).
– Schelker: I always knew exactly how much my cars cost. So I’m surprised at how Carvolution manages to offer such affordable subscriptions. I’m told this includes vehicle purchases, insurance, etc. This became clear to me when they explained that it was related to volume effects in purchases. It’s crazy how much you save compared to leasing. The only drawback is that you cannot configure the car yourself. But with a selection of around 50 models, this isn’t so bad.

Are you now an expert at calculating total costs?

– Moser: I definitely learned a lot about the overall cost of cars. For me, a car only cost me gas and parking.
– Schelker: I thought I knew about renting. But only now I checked how to calculate costs correctly. One thing is clear: a car is always more expensive than you think.
– Moser: First of all you should look at the total costs: taxes, depreciation, insurance, service, tires, etc.
– Schelker: You should also make sure that you need the same parameters when comparing. For example, operating time, mileage package, but of course also the equipment, otherwise it does not work. If you don’t check it out, you can ask Carvolution, because if you compare correctly you will always find savings potential with Carvolution.

How does the Carvolution team influence you?

– Schelker: A cool, young team we can identify with. Working together is fun. You can also stop by Bannwil and get advice on site.
– Moser: I’m the type of person who says “give me the car, tell me how much the monthly subscription is.” However, it is important for the team that you understand the concept behind it. It’s impressive how accurate and transparent Carvolution is when it comes to car costs. I personally found it a bit difficult to talk about money so much. But it’s problematic when people forget the total cost of a car they buy or lease and therefore fail to see the savings potential of a car subscription.

Was it clear from the beginning that you would prefer electric cars?

– Moser: For me, yes, the car subscription was the perfect opportunity for me to test drive an electric car.
– Schelker: Being a petrolhead, I did this for Moser’s sake (laughs). No, driving an electric car in daily life was a truly exciting experience.

What was your first subscription experience with the Porsche Taycan from Carvolution?

– Schelker: A holiday dream! As a Porsche fan, I honestly had a lot of fun. I was a bit critical of electric driving at first, but of course it’s hard to beat an electric Porsche.
– Moser: I thought it was totally overrated (laughs). Sometimes it even bothered me, I’m not that kind of Porsche driver. But of course the cars are really good.

You travel a lot, how was your store experience?

– Schelker: I was positively surprised. I installed a charging box at home, so it was actually easier than I thought.
– Moser: Frankly, this was a change for me. Unlike the Schelker, I cannot charge at home and therefore had to compromise with charging stations in my daily life. But the infrastructure is not bad, I think I know all the charging stations in Switzerland now (laughs).

How has your community reacted to Porsches and subscription?

– Moser: There were differences of opinion about Carvolution as well as about Porsche. But many wanted to learn more about car subscription. For example, you were not aware of the best price guarantee. Carvolution promises customers that they will pay no more with a car subscription than they would if they leased the same car under the same conditions.
– Schelker: Cars are a very emotional topic, and some in our community were convinced they would pay less when renting. So we made careful calculations with the obvious ones. As a result, the Carvolution was always cheaper. In summary, the community responded very well, but there were also exciting discussions.

Are you still driving a Porsche or what happens next?

– Schelker: That’s the great thing about subscription. After six months of the electric Porsche, we are now looking at which car to switch to. I think it will stay sporty.
– Moser: I would have been happy if it had been a little more subtle (laughs). But ultimately society will decide this. Voting for this is ongoing (see text box above). I’m excited to see what car we drive next.
