Visually, Avtotor Amber becomes a rival…

This vehicle will definitely go on the list of the ugliest cars of all time. Although the all-electric Avtotor Amber is only a prototype, the Russian car has already had to endure a lot of ridicule on the Internet.

university project

Avtotor has been around since 1996 and produces cars in Kaliningrad. The Russian automaker has produced a variety of cars from brands such as BMW and Kia in the past. It all ended when Russia received harsh sanctions from the West as a result of its war of aggression against Ukraine. For this reason, the private company set out with its own project.

Moscow Polytech University received the contract to develop electric cars from automaker Avtotor. The result: small windows, tiny headlights that look as if the car is looking into the distance, large exterior surfaces made of sheet metal, and small wheels. There are also high side sills, small doors and raised window lines. So, in which segment can Amber be classified? It’s probably a mix between a small car and a minivan.

Mass production from 2025

However, whether the design is beautiful or ugly is ultimately in the eye of the beholder; As it is known, taste is debatable. Therefore, technical data will be much more important for an objective classification; but these are unknown for Avtotor Amber. There is an explanation for the bulky design: the vehicle is a so-called subframe used to test technical components, the Lentach news service writes about X.

Lentach also reported that the battery and electric motor will be tested in five pre-production vehicles this year. Mass production of the model is planned to start in 2025, and approximately 50,000 vehicles will roll off the assembly line every year. It is not yet known whether the design actually differs significantly from the prototype reported by Lentach. There are no articles about the electric car on the website of Avtotor and the commissioned university – only on X and various other media services.
