Leaders hope to have a profound impact on education

Bogota Colombia, December 2023. The explosive growth of artificial intelligence and various digital technologies and applications will have a profound impact on the access and delivery of education for future generations, professionals and educational leaders, as well as industry, at the regional digital talent summit this Monday.

The event, which runs from Monday to Tuesday, brings together nearly 600 participants, including education and industry leaders, ministers and senior government officials, as well as young students who are winners of various talent programs in the region.

The two-day event on the topic “Deepening the development of digital talents in the smart era” is co-organized UNESCO, Huawei, Government of Colombia, GIZ and EFE.

The event focused on topics such as challenges in digital talent development in the region, best practices, policy formulation and perspectives, and efforts to fill digital talent development gaps such as gender and geographical.

UNESCO highlighted the challenges of closing the digital divide. According to their research, limited access to educational resources, qualified teachers and infrastructure can hinder the development of digital skills, especially in marginalized communities or rural areas.

Director of the Multisectoral UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago, Claudia Uribe said: “There is no doubt that the technology industry has tremendous growth potential in Latin America and the Caribbean and can benefit the region with innovative solutions to the many challenges it faces.”

At the event, participants from different sectors said that overcoming existing challenges and further promoting the development of digital talent requires concerted efforts. President of the association Chamber of Colombia, Andrés Calle said: “Colombia You must strive to become a leader in these aspects, and we cannot achieve this alone. That’s why we’re here. The key is to promote the creation of innovation ecosystems that facilitate collaboration between entrepreneurs, startups and established companies. This will encourage a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences, providing an environment conducive to creativity and the creation of innovative solutions.”

This year Huawei celebrated the tenth edition of its Seeds for the Future main talent in Latin America and the Caribbean. The company first brought the program to Latin America in 2014, starting with Colombia and then expanding to around 20 countries in the region. To date, it has awarded around 2,100 scholarships to support the training of students in the region in ICT technologies.

In addition, the company has partnerships with some 470 local universities and colleges through its Huawei ICT Academy programwhose goal is to offer capacity building assistance to educational institutions so that they can offer certification programs to students in the region.

It is also organizing Global ICT competitions In recent years with numerous teams students from Latin America reaching the global final.

At the event, participants from different sectors said that overcoming existing challenges and further promoting the development of digital talent requires concerted efforts.

Huawei and UNESCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the event to take your collaboration to the next level. The two sides have made joint efforts in the region, including a project in Chile aimed at improving teacher training capacity across the country.
