There are many small cars. But not many of them offer four-wheel drive. The Suzuki Swift has always been an affordable small car that stands out from the crowd. It’s a little cooler and more fun than the others; But most importantly, it also offered the 4×4 option.
The situation is no different in the new version, which will start in the spring of 2024 and is now the fourth generation. The new Swift, 3.86 meters long, has visually preserved its character and proportions. However, it looks slightly less sporty than its predecessor, although at 1.52 meters it looks slightly taller and stockier – and again it’s available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
But when it comes to engines, everything is clear: the new Swift is only available with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection, but without a turbo; but combined with mild hybrid technology. It produces 82 hp (61 kW) and 112 Nm of maximum torque but consumes only 4.6 to 4.9 liters on average.
The interior space of the five-door model remains largely unchanged compared to the previous three generations, which were sold a total of nine million times. Depending on the position of the rear seats, there is between 265 and 980 liters of space in the trunk. The cockpit has been redesigned. There are still analogue round instruments in the driver’s field of vision, but there is also a nine-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash that can be used to operate comfort functions, navigation or the audio system.
Help systems have also been improved compared to their predecessors. In addition to lane keeping and blind spot assists, Swift now features traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control. Swiss prices for the fourth Swift generation, which will be launched in spring 2024, have not yet been determined. What is certain is that the new Swift will be a little more expensive. “Simply because,” says Swiss Suzuki managing director Stefan Gass, “because it complies from the very beginning with the latest general GSR safety regulations, which will be mandatory from July 2024.” But Gass also promises: “We will have an entry-level model that will be priced below today’s cheapest Swift model at 20,990 francs.”
