This is the official trailer for GTA 6 – release year 2025

It happened as it had to happen: the trailer for GTA 6 was released ahead of schedule by the developer company Rockstar. This is because someone had already leaked the trailer on X – almost a day before the official date. This is what is known so far:

When is the trailer coming?

The trailer was actually supposed to be released on Tuesday at 2:45 PM Swiss time. But Rockstar was ahead and posted the one and a half minute video online on Monday (local time). That is him:

The interest is enormous: 40 million people watched the trailer within seven hours.

When will GTA 6 be released?

There is no exact release date, but it is mentioned at the end of the trailer GTA 6 is scheduled for 2025.

This is in line with expert assessments, which expected a release in 2024 at the earliest and 2025 at the latest. This is because the developer studio Take Two predicted huge profits for this period in May 2023.

Strauss Zelnick, the company’s CEO, cited the development of “groundbreaking titles” and “new records in operational performance” as the reason. That sounds a lot like a blockbuster game, like GTA will probably be.

On which platforms?

GTA 6 will definitely be released for the PlayStation 5. There are also rumors that Sony has exclusively acquired the rights to the new GTA, but this seems unlikely to experts. The game should therefore also be developed for the Xbox Series X/S.

However, the question is whether the game will also be released for older consoles such as the PS4 or Xbox One. There is also no information yet about a PC version. It’s unlikely this will be published some time later, if at all. Just like it was with GTA 5.

What about the leaks?

Gamers saw the first gameplay fragments of GTA 6 as early as September 2022. A mega leak saw a 90-minute video of an early developer version of the game appear online. A hacker published it after unsuccessfully trying to blackmail Rockstar with it.

There is currently another image circulating that should show the full map of the game. However, this was largely composed of the leaked gameplay video and another 7-second video showing the game’s landscape from a bird’s eye view.

What else do we know about GTA 6?

According to consistent information, the game is set in the fictional city of Vice City, based on Miami. This now also matches the released trailer. The story is said to revolve around drug trafficking and smuggling linked to South America. That is why a visit to the southern continent is also possible.

However, it is unclear what role the fans will take on. Various names were mentioned in various leaks and the rumor continued that a woman would take on one of the leading roles in GTA 6 for the first time. The trailer seems to confirm this: time and again a couple is seen, the woman says: “We can only get out of here alive as a team.” A hint of a co-op mode? Let’s see.
