Almost every car brand now has a fully electric model. Even Rolls-Royce recently launched the all-electric luxury car Spectre. About 17 percent of all new cars registered in Switzerland last year were fully electric. The rate will continue to increase due to the increasing availability of electric cars, and with it the demand for additional charging options. But therein lies the problem.

36 percent have their own charging station

As a recent study by TCS shows, the desire to buy electric cars in Switzerland still exists, but is no longer as pronounced as in previous years. Today, the first people who decide to buy an electric car are people who want to protect the environment and have the opportunity to charge it at home.

According to TCS research, nearly 53 percent of electric car owners surveyed have their own electrical connection for their vehicles and 36 percent even have their own charging station. 23 percent of electric drivers use public charging stations in the immediate vicinity, while 12 percent do not have a charging option nearby. 14 percent charge their electric cars at work.

Compensation with your employer is attractive

According to statistics, there are various things that go against buying an electric car. The most frequently cited reasons include the lack of a charging station at home (65%) and price (41%), followed by doubts about the availability of sufficient charging stations (34%).

However, the ongoing power outage and the resulting rising electricity prices have almost no impact on purchasing behavior. 11 percent of the survey participants said that they postponed buying an electric car due to the expensiveness of electricity and the shortage of electricity. 37 percent of survey respondents do not offer any compensation options at work. Therefore, the possibility of charging at work has an additional impact on the willingness to purchase an electric car.

This is also shown by a study by market research institute UScale: in Germany, 55 percent of company car drivers can charge at work, while this figure is only 29 percent of private car users. For 82 percent of company car drivers, their employers pay for charging current. However, among private users, this rate is only 48 percent. Additionally, 98 percent of survey respondents find compensation with their employers attractive or very attractive. These figures are also available from Swiss (e-)drivers and show that employers can also contribute to environmental protection by offering remuneration options to their employees.
