Black Friday is just around the corner: It’s that time again on Friday, November 24, and the big discount war begins in the retail trade.

Cheap mobile phone subscriptions, reduced TVs and computers, as well as huge discounts on clothing: bargain hunters are preparing for next Black Friday. However, while the electronics industry is outdoing itself with price cuts on its devices, things remain relatively quiet in the automotive industry. Are there any attractive Black Friday discount offers at car dealerships?

We randomly asked various car importers and larger garages. And in fact: most Swiss new car importers and even larger garages are not joining the Black Friday discount war.

Black Friday for car brands

We don’t know why the automotive industry remains so passive. There may be several reasons. One dealer told us that he prefers to make spontaneous promotions on leasing offers or accessories, for example a set of winter wheels at half price.

In our survey, we found a few brands that are riding the Black Friday wave and offering special offers next Friday. For example, there is a 20 percent discount on all driving assistant services in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. KGM, formerly SsangYong, is even offering a version of the Rexton on Black Friday, aptly named Black Edition, limited to 30 units across Europe. The model is based on the highest equipment series, Sapphire, and is completely covered in black and anthracite both inside and out.

Mobility provider Clyde currently offers its subscribers a monthly fee when they buy a new electric car subscription. The provider is using the Black Friday enthusiasm to make its business model better known in the consumer world.

This year may be the last year that so few companies from the automotive industry will participate in Black Friday. Because if Discount Friday in retail trade is as successful this year as it has been in recent years, consumers can probably look forward to attractive discounts in the automotive industry next year. Because as the history of Black Friday shows, the industry needs a great pioneer and then every other company follows suit.
