“We’ll pass the driving test again”

Heart to hand: Would you pass the driving test again? If you ask Ms. and Mr. Schweizer, you’ll get a surprisingly confident result. In a survey of 1,000 good people in Switzerland by tech company Continental Suisse SA, 50.9 percent said they would pass the driving test (theory and practice) again immediately.

French-speaking Swiss are particularly convinced of their theoretical knowledge and driving skills: 57.7 percent claim that their driving skills are sufficient to pass the driving test immediately again. In German-speaking Switzerland, however, this ratio is slightly more differentiated with 48.6%.

6.6 percent believe they will fail

In addition to the 50.9 percent of Swiss who believe they can pass the theory and practice of the car test immediately, there is another 26.5 percent who believe they can at least pass the practical test without any preparation. Only 6.6 percent are very honest and admit that they tend to temporarily fail both the theory and the practical test.

It is also interesting to separate the answers by age groups. While 55.9 percent of 30-49-year-olds are convinced they will pass both parts of the driving test immediately, only 44.8 percent of 50-74-year-olds say so.

Good grades from professional driving instructor

What does Willi Wismer, President of the Zurich Driving Instructors Association, say about this survey? Does she rate Mrs. and Mr. Schweizer’s knowledge of our roads highly? “Even higher,” he says. “Most Swiss drivers keep traffic rules in check. In any case, in the ‘Exam yesterday, drive today’ advanced training course, we rarely have to advise anyone to stop driving.” Wismer therefore gives good grades to Swiss drivers and believes that more than 50.9 percent of all Swiss will pass the driving test immediately.

However, it can never hurt to brush up on your own driving skills and know how to behave correctly on the road. Various organizations such as TCS or driving schools offer refresher courses to car and motor vehicle drivers to give them more confidence and safety on the road.
