There are currently around 2,500 direct current charging points for fast charging in Switzerland. On long journeys, the battery can be recharged on the go with charging power between 50 and 350 kilowatts.

The fast charging network in Switzerland is growing and growing. There are currently around 2,500 charging points with direct current fast charging and charging capacity between 50 and 350 kilowatts. It allows you to reach your destination with relatively manageable charging breaks on long journeys.

However: Only 20 percent of charging takes place in public spaces. There is still a lack of charging infrastructure, especially in semi-public areas. Many cities and municipalities, companies and associations, as well as real estate investors, are still reluctant to install charging points in residential buildings for their employees or tenants. The vehicles there are idle for so long during working hours or at night that they can be charged slowly and their batteries are full again when you hit the road.

It is better to charge slowly rather than charge quickly

Juice Technology, the Swiss charging infrastructure provider from Bachenbülach ZH, wants to change this. So far, it is known as a supplier of mobile chargers, which are marketed by some car brands as an option for electric cars. Now Juice Technology CEO Christoph Erni wants to motivate companies, homeowners and NGOs in particular to take up the issue and examine how they can provide charging points. “At the current stage of the transformation to e-mobility, many people are still unaware of how charging stations and wall boxes can be installed and what requirements are required,” says Erni. Especially since investors want to spend their money on a setup that is as forward-looking as possible.

Erni hypothesizes that every parking space you park in for a long time will sooner or later have a charging option: “This means there are no power spikes as with fast charging, but cars stay connected to the network for longer, charging smoothly, and at the same time “It ensures the stability of the energy infrastructure because the surplus from sustainable electricity production can be stored.” Even if you park it for half an hour, it’s worth plugging in, but definitely spend the night at home or at work. That’s why charging stations need to come to customers rather than the other way around. Particularly important for Erni is the fixed cable at the charging point, so electric car owners don’t have to pull their own cables out of the trunk Because too much effort can significantly reduce charging readiness.

Who offers the best charging project?

With these criteria in mind, Juice is now announcing a contest. Cities, municipalities, companies, associations and clubs or property managers will be able to apply to Juice Technology with a project to establish charging infrastructure until October 31. Main prize: The person who submitted the winning project will be able to win up to 100 wall boxes with 11 kilowatts of charging power, including installation and a strong connection to the electrical grid.

The prerequisite for participating in the tender is the submission of project data, floor plan and photographs, as well as the number of parking spaces and therefore the number of charging points to be equipped. An explanation of the current challenges in installing charging infrastructure and electrifying parking lots is needed, as well as a rationale for why this project deserves the award.

Advert

What kind of response does Erni expect? “We think that many projects will be presented. Because we hear everywhere that the pressure to act is gradually becoming clearer and the will is emerging.” First of all, it wants to use competition to reduce barriers in people’s minds, so that concrete charging projects can be implemented rather than just thought about.
