Frank, what made you decide to get a car subscription four years ago?
I was very interested in electromobility from the beginning. In 2018, I thought I wanted to drive an electric car myself. Then I came across Renault Zoe on the internet platform and thought this car was great. I came across Carvolution by chance. At the time, I had heard of car subscription but didn’t really know what it was or how it worked.
How did you learn about vehicle subscription?
I then researched the topic in depth, Googling it and reading all about it on the Carvolution website. I found the offer very interesting and wrote an email expressing my interest in the car. After that everything happened quickly, easily and quickly.
Have you purchased or rented your vehicles before?
It was always purchased with one exception. I once had a lease, but I quickly went down to earth. I probably had a Monday model and had to constantly go to the garage and pay for repairs myself. I also incurred unexpected expenses when returning the product.
What do you see as the financial advantage of subscription?
When you buy a car, you either have to invest a lot at once or pay off a loan. If I drive a subscription car, the savings stay in the account and I’m still on the move. My Audi e-tron would cost around 120,000 francs, just the car. I pay around 27,000 francs for the 24-month subscription period and I drive a new car. Everything is included except the charging current: taxes, insurance, service, even tire replacement and storage. Also, I don’t run the risk of depreciation or resale.
At first glance, the monthly fixed price may seem high. Can you understand the subscription price?
Yes, I can totally understand the subscription price. Many people underestimate car costs because they occur throughout the year, but the subscription price actually includes everything car-related and you pay it monthly. Then you will immediately know how much you spent on your car. As I said, many people forget to take into account the loss of value of the car they buy. I also think it’s great that with a car subscription you can flexibly set your mileage package yourself via the app. I’m away for a few months in the winter, then I adjust it to 850 kilometers a month. Thanks to the application, I can always track the kilometers I have traveled.
You can customize your subscription by duration, mileage package, etc. How would you tell your friends, including:
I always explain to them that I pay a fixed monthly fee that includes everything from insurance to tax to maintenance and tires, so I always keep track of costs and don’t have to worry about anything. I also make it clear that when buying or renting a car, the total cost will be spread over the entire year. Costs, especially depreciation, are quickly forgotten. My colleagues are now quite interested in subscribing.
What was the criticism of subscription?
They found the monthly fixed price too high. At first they laughed at me. The first is because I drive an electric car, and the second is because I subscribe to it. The Swiss mentality that you have to call something your own emerged strongly. When I arrived in my Tesla, everyone turned to me and asked: “Does he deserve enough to be able to afford a Tesla?” I had to explain to people once again how the car subscription works, that Carvolution offers many vehicles for every budget, from small cars to SUVs, and that you can choose your perfect car.
You have been a Carvolution customer for a long time, what has changed during this time?
(Laughs.) We hear and see a lot about Carvolution these days. I think there is almost no one who hasn’t heard of him. Carvolution is a term. But the offer got bigger and bigger. You can see rapid growth.
What do you mainly use your car for?
For my commute to work. I am not a train driver. For shopping and of course also for trips or holidays. Traveling abroad is no problem with Carvolution.
For many people, a car is a very personal and special possession. What’s a subscription car like?
I think it’s nice to name cars. It’s just a car, but you have a relationship with the car and you spend a lot of time in it. For example, Renault Zoe was simply called “Zoe” and Tesla was called “Benjamin Grey”. On the one hand, because it is grey, and on the other hand, because Benjamin is a beautiful name. Audi e-tron is now called “Zeus”. It’s just a big car and it fits very well.
Were there any positive or negative surprises about the subscription?
I have not encountered any negative surprises so far. With a car, yes, but not with a Carvolution. But if the car goes crazy, Carvolution can’t do anything about it. If something happened, I was always helped immediately.
How do you find the Carvolution team?
Very professional, young and dynamic. I never feel like a customer, more like a family member. I also love the “you culture”, it gives you the feeling that you are talking to a friend and not just a customer.
What else would you like to see as a service from Carvolution?
I have no wishes for the service itself, but I hope that Carvolution can continue to be successful and maintain its young and dynamic character. The start-up continues to spread its desire to change the world.
To whom can you recommend the vehicle subscription?
Actually everyone. Especially those who want to use it instead of themselves. This makes sense especially in cars. It is easy and cheap. Additionally, Carvolution has the right vehicle for every budget and need.
