The rumors have come true. RIP Lightning cable.
On Tuesday evening, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro and two new Apple Watch models. The product show from Apple’s Cupertino headquarters was broadcast live on the Internet. The “Special Event” started at 7pm (CEST) and lasted just under an hour and a half.
The main thing in the ticker
iPhone 15 (128 GB): 849 francs.
iPhone 15 Plus (128 GB): 949 fr.
iPhone 15 Pro (128 GB): 1079 fr.
iPhone 15 Pro Max (256 GB): 1299 fr.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 49MM Titanium Trail Treadmill: 799 Fr.
These are the color variants:
According to the announcement, the iPhone 15 Pro can record spatial videos that can then be played back on the Vision Pro.
The Pro Max model is the first with a periscope telephoto lens that enables a 5x optical zoom. The focal length is 120 mm, the aperture is f/2.8.
The new iPhone Pro models will be equipped with the A17 Pro. Apple’s own chip development should once again be more energy efficient and deliver higher performance. In addition, hardware-based “Ray Tracing” is possible for the first time.
Apple is clearly focusing more and more on mobile gamers. “Resident Evil Village”, the remake of “Resident Evil 4” and “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” is released for the iPhone 17 Pro.
And the camera performance?
The main camera of the Pro models should benefit from a larger image sensor. In particular, portrait mode and night mode are said to be significantly better in low light.
Apple is killing the ‘mute’ switch on the side.
The switch has been replaced by one Action button, to which different functions can be assigned. For example, you can use it to activate the flashlight or camera by pressing the button, activate a focus mode, summon the translator, launch a shortcut or create a voice note.
By default, the new button remains a “ring/mute” switch.
The AirPods Pro (second generation) have been upgraded and can now also be charged via USB-C (in the box). This way you can connect the new iPhone directly to the AirPods Pro via a USB-C cable to charge them.
What may be the most important rumor for many users has been confirmed: Apple is saying goodbye to the Lightning port on the iPhone. Instead, a USB-C cable is now used for charging, as most Android users are familiar with. Apple obviously does not mention that this change is being implemented under pressure from the European Commission.
It is the first Apple phone with a titanium frame.
This means that the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max must be particularly robust and light.
The alloy is called “Grade 5”. The Mars rover is made of the same material.
The screen should also be more robust thanks to the new “Ceramic Shield”.
And the price?
iPhone 15: Starting at $799 (with 128 GB storage).
iPhone 15 Plus: Starting at $899 (with 128GB).
Apple’s satellite assistance service for the iPhone should also be available in Switzerland this month.

This rumor has also been confirmed: all new iPhones will get Dynamic Island – a nice name for the black recess at the top edge of the screen. According to Apple, the screen brightness is up to 2000 nits.
Two sizes:
iPhone 15: 6.1 inches
iPhone 15 Plus: 6.7 inches.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are powered by last year’s Apple A16 Bionic chip.
The main camera (on the back) has a resolution of 48 megapixels.
Available in five colours.
The most important things about camera performance at a glance:
According to Apple, the extra megapixels provide better digital zoom. This means you can get close to the subject even without an optical zoom lens.
Apple Watch Series 9: Starting at $399.
Apple Watch Ultra 2: Starting at $799.
Available from September 22.
The new Apple Watch Ultra also supports “Double Tap” like the Apple Watch Series 9. The display should now offer up to 3000 nits of brightness.
According to the announcement, every new Apple device will be ‘Net Zero’ by 2030.
For the first time, the new Apple Watch will use exclusively recycled cobalt.
The Series 9 is completely CO2 neutral.
Apple is investing heavily in sustainable energy, promises manager Lisa Jackson (photo), who has led the American company’s environmental protection efforts since 2013.
And (animal) leather will no longer be used in Apple products. So neither for iPhone and iPad cases, nor for watch straps.
Innovative gesture control aims to make operating the Apple Watch even easier: Double Tap. If you tap your thumb and index finger together (relatively quickly), you operate the watch with one hand and answer calls, for example.
The latest generation of Apple smartwatches, called Series 9, comes with the new S9 chip and is of course better and faster. This means Siri requests can now be processed right on the wrist, making responses faster. In the future, health data will also be combined with the voice assistant for the first time. For example, you can ask Siri how you slept.🤪
According to Tim Cook, the first mixed reality devices called “Vision Pro” will be delivered in early 2024. However, this will probably only be the case in the US.
About the iPhone and the Apple Watch, says the Apple boss.

From a consumer perspective and in terms of environmental impact (keyword: electronic waste), the move from Apple’s original iPhone plug (“Lightning”) to the industry standard USB-C is probably the most important innovation.
