In the future, Sony Playstation game console owners will have to pay significantly more than before if they want to meet other players online. The company is raising prices for its three paid PlayStation Plus subscriptions, the company announced.
Sony has not yet communicated the size of the price increases for Switzerland. However, they are likely to be similar to those in the Eurozone.
The content of the subscription models, on the other hand, will not change. PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can compete against other players online and download certain games for free each month.
Users of the more expensive subscription variants get access to a games catalog with hundreds of titles with free old and new games. The most expensive plan allows members to stream games instead of installing them on the console, among other things.
It is not known why Sony is raising prices. The company writes only: “The price adjustment allows us to continue to offer high-quality games and valuable benefits for our PlayStation Plus subscription.”
According to Sony, prices for users who currently have a 12-month subscription will not change until the next annual bill, which starts on November 6. New subscribers will have to pay the higher prices from September 6.
There are no changes to subscription prices for the monthly and quarterly billing periods. However, these have always been more expensive compared to the 12-month plans. PlayStation Plus Essential costs 8.99 euros per month, Extra 13.99 euros and Premium 16.99 euros.
Last year, Sony raised prices for its current PlayStation 5 (PS5) game console. The company had made the two models 50 euros more expensive each.
Since then, the PS5 with Blu-ray drive costs 549.99 euros instead of 499.99 euros. The ‘Digital Edition’ of the PS5, which has no disc, costs 449.99 euros instead of the previous 399.99 euros.
At the time, Sony justified its decision with the “global economic environment”. The high inflation rates and unfavorable currency trends affected not only consumers, but also corporate sectors, the report said.
