As of September 29, X has new data protection guidelines. Users can already discover what the company will use their data for in the future. In the future, the company plans to train AI models and machine learning techniques using user-provided content.
Exactly why the data is collected is not clear from the preliminary data protection guidelines. The short message service could probably use the user content obtained in this way provide their own AI. Since Twitter has been around since 2006, the company can draw on an immense data set.
Elon Musk succinctly stated on X that this was public data, “no DMs or anything private.”
As recently as April, Musk had demanded in an open letter that AI developments be halted. However, X users’ data could now benefit his newly founded company xAI.
Machine learning describes part of the development of artificial intelligence. Algorithms are trained using data sets to recognize patterns in large data sets, evaluate them and make predictions based on these data. The more data that is fed into the artificial intelligence, the more accurately it can work and make predictions.
The service also announced that it will also use biometric information in the future. If users give their consent, X can collect and use the data for “security and identification purposes”.
Some of the newly published data protection guidelines are very crudely worded. The ‘Research’ item can be found under the ‘How we use data’ section. It only states that X will use the user data for research, surveys, product testing, and troubleshooting.
