Where many people vacation side-by-side in a small area, the potential for conflict also increases at the campsite. Especially newcomers who have discovered an outdoor holiday just for themselves in recent years, make the typical mistakes of newcomers to camping here, from constantly showering to crushing fields. We wanted to hear from our readers if they had any other camp blunders that drove them crazy. And is the camp boom only downsides – or are there positive developments in local areas as well?
Among the numerous responses, one point stands out that seems to cause frequent conflicts among campers: “Barking and even dogs without a leash definitely don’t go!” Writes Blick reader Sonja Rohr of Oberiberg SZ. Jeanette Steinle of Liestal BL is also annoyed by the fact that more and more campers have dogs: “When they’re out for a walk, they let the dogs do their business on other people’s grounds – it’s just scary!”
It’s just an exciting classic since the Corona-related camp boom: loud music. “Even if the sound is supposedly quiet for the pollutant, neighbors still need to listen,” says Blick reader Guido Zeltner from Kölliken AG. Other sounds also strain the nerves. Brigit Weiss of Knutwil LU talks about night dice games. And Roland Oberhänsli of Hünenberg ZG reports “loud burping” at night due to excessive beer consumption. Josef Wobmann from Lucerne reports that thrown cigarette butts are also a problem.
But kids can also get on the nerves of their campmates: “A baby in a tent next door can be very annoying at night,” says Blick reader Silvan Koch of Balsthal SO. “Or screaming kids at 7am.” Rolf Wanner from Aesch BL is also disturbed here by very noisy children: “Most times parents don’t care if their children are screaming all the time”.
Armin Jucker of Boltigen BE and Christian Michel of Bremgarten AG are plagued by a fundamental problem: too many rules, too relaxed people. “Where’s the holiday feeling and relaxation in that?” he asks. Stefan Meister’s reader comment follows a similar line: “What really bothers me is the constant guests. People who feel that the place belongs to them are always observing everything and spotting the slightest violation.”
However, many readers feel that all campers, whether regular guests or newcomers, should experience a little more serenity and indulgence at the site, especially since it’s part of the holiday season. Of course, for everyone’s good, just like at home, camping enthusiasts have to follow certain rules of etiquette. Because then things will eventually work out with neighbors camping in most cases.
