But in the US, customers want something new every year: so-called model years have been around for decades – improvements or redesigns are made every year. Sometimes it’s just the little things that attract, sometimes it’s the big changes.

Only BMW and Land Rover do it similarly in Europe. A new engine here, a new infotainment system here – this is how both brands keep their models up to date. At Land Rover, it’s time for the little ones. Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport are technically on the same platform, but appeal to different target groups: the Evoque is aimed at city dwellers who find a regular compact car too boring; The seven-seater Discovery Sport guides families with children and cones in everyday life.

Curved screen, vegan fabrics

The key innovation in both is a refreshed interior with new materials, an all-new 11.4-inch touchscreen curved into the front panel for more storage and infotainment. More and more important: In addition to leather trims for the interior, there are vegan covers made from PET recycled material on the Discovery Sport or fabrics made from sustainable wool blends or eucalyptus fibers on the Evoque.

Technically, the new headlights with 67 LED elements each provide adaptive matrix light. By switching the LEDs on and off, the light cone is cut so that oncoming traffic is not dazzled. Three drivers, up to 309 hp

The drives remained unchanged: each with three cylinders, 1.5 liter displacement and a 48-volt diesel for recovery and a 204 hp (150 kW) diesel and a 200 hp (147 kW) diesel as booster and a petrol mild hybrid ) diesel petrol for the engine. There’s also a plug-in hybrid with 309 hp (227 kW) for plug-in charging, providing an all-electric range of 62 kilometers in the Evoque and 47 kilometers in the larger Discovery Sport. The most important thing about both makeovers is definitely note: Land Rover still exists. But after several management changes, the brand and its sister Jaguar are in the middle of the transition to electric motors. So there wasn’t much new to report lately – other than the whole group repositioning itself. In the future, four different brands will be gathered under the umbrella of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR): Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Jaguar. The big all-electric Range Rover will likely launch next year.
