Apple releases new Will Smith movie despite blowout scandal

Less than a year after the hit scandal surrounding Hollywood star Will Smith, his new movie “Emancipation” is set to hit theaters. The slave drama from director Antoine Fuqua will be released in December.

Apple announced this on Monday. After the Smith scandal at the Oscars in March, it was widely believed that the film’s release would be delayed.

But now, Apple has surprisingly announced that “Emancipation,” starring Smith, will be released on December 2 and streaming on Apple TV+ a week later. This means that Apple can also submit the film for the Oscars in March next year. Smith plays a slave who escapes from Louisiana to the northern United States in the drama.

The Hollywood star has been quiet since the clap scandal. 53-year-old hit comedian Chris Rock takes the stage at the Oscars after he joked about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from hair loss. The scandal made headlines around the world and overshadowed the gala at which Smith was awarded the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the movie “King Richard”.
