Go on vacation by car! What made you happy at first can turn out to be a real test, especially for families. As if unconventional roads and traffic rules weren’t enough for parents behind the wheel, the potential for distractions increases even more when kids are in the back seat. Six in ten parents in Germany – and it should be no different in Switzerland – have trouble concentrating while driving while their kids are playing, arguing or otherwise behaving in the back. Therefore, one out of every five people neglects even the traffic rules.

Then he could even be fined: St. Gallen, the warning glance at a child in the back seat while driving is classified as “disturbing attention by performing tasks”. Power – quote – from “300” francs and still free. If you travel with the steering wheel, the child whining from the back seat may even cost you ID.

Small mistakes with great danger

It’s even more harmless if you forget to blink due to distraction. But many parents have already taken their eyes off the road or let go of the wheel. As a result, they accidentally left the lane or ran a red light. All are potentially dangerous situations that could lead to a collision in the worst case. Families often arrive late and in a bad mood. It is not unusual for a driver to argue with his partner or another driver on the road.

This is how kids piss off their parents

This was the result of a survey of 1,000 German drivers aged 25 to 55 traveling with children aged 16 and under. Car maker Nissan had it surveyed. Accordingly, the biggest stressors from the back seat are crying and shouting spells (67 percent), quarrels between siblings (60 percent) and kicking the driver’s seat (45 percent).

Here’s how parents react to distraction

As a result, eleven percent of parents surveyed switched to public transport, while nine percent avoided highways and busy roads. But most moms and dads focus on keeping their pups busy. To do this, they rely on smartphones and tablets, music, toys and books. But modern assistance systems already available on almost all models, such as adaptive cruise control, active lane keepers or emergency brake assists, can help families arrive on vacation in a healthy and comfortable way.

This is where it gets expensive behind the wheel
for traffic violations
These buses threaten velo hooligans
New rule for all e-bikes
Drivers without lights will now be fined
At 417 km/h on the highway
Does it punish insanity?
Speedometer mandatory from 2024
No more full authority for bike racers
No mercy despite the heatwave
Glace behind the wheel? This will be expensive!
