Those in the know will immediately notice that the new Fiat Topolino is very similar to the Citroën Ami and its counterpart, the Opel Rocks-e. This is because both brands mentioned, such as Fiat, belong to the Stellantis group. That’s why, after Citroën and Opel, Fiat is now joining the caravan of electric “Sustainable Urban Mobility” vehicles and launching a third model with the same technology.
The model name chosen for the Italian micro electric vehicle refers to an iconic Fiat mini model of the post-war era. The first Fiat 500 Topolino, produced between 1936 and 1955, revolutionized the idea of the automobile, which until then was only available to the wealthy, and made a significant contribution to Italy’s mobilization. Looking chubby and friendly, the vehicle gained such high levels of sympathy that it was compared to a small mouse (Italian: Topolino).
The new little electric car transfers the optimism of the eponymous to an all-electric model that looks as cool as it is cute, and as an interesting urban traffic vehicle, it’s likely to cause a few laughs.
Contrary to expectations, however, the Italians not only replaced the emblems of the Citroën Ami or Opel Rocks-e with their modern Topolino, but instead designed a cool, retro looking body. The front end is similar to that of a 1957 Fiat 500, with simple cords instead of doors and – as in the past – a large folding roof.
It is not yet known whether Topolino will also come to Switzerland. And there is no price as a result. But what is certain is that the Fiat Topolino, which weighs around 500 kilograms and has a maximum speed of 45 km/h and a range of around 75 kilometers, is officially approved for teenagers over the age of 15. Italy. At least Italy’s youth will soon get another cool vehicle with a Topolino instead of a scooter to make inner cities unsafe.
