The voice assistant Cortana will soon be removed from Windows 10 and 11. This move is part of a recently launched AI offensive from Microsoft, which is intended to give space to new products.

However, Microsoft’s virtual assistant will continue to be available in some Microsoft products, as the company recently confirmed through support. This means users can continue to use Cortana in Outlook Mobile, Teams Mobile, Microsoft Teams View, and Microsoft Teams Rooms. The end of the app in Windows 10 and 11 is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Bing and ChatGPT

As a replacement for Cortana, Microsoft offers several programs that build on and extend Cortana’s capabilities. For example, voice control in Windows 11 should be able to give instructions via audio commands. There is also the renewed Bing search engine, which now uses artificial intelligence via ChatGPT, and the AI ​​productivity assistant Copilot.

Copilot should sit in the taskbar and take over important tasks like the snipping tool, copying and pasting content, arranging windows, and customizing Windows settings. In addition, the content must be able to be explained, reformulated and summarized.

Cortana was introduced in 2014 as a competitor to Apple’s Siri and Google Now. Although the app for Android and iOS was discontinued two years ago, the voice assistant is still one of the most popular in the world.
